Home from surgery

Had TVH and A&P repairs Monday a.m. First hour in recovery was rocky with regards to pain but they got it under control after that. I was surprisingly awake and alert for most of the day. Came home yesterday afternoon and 4 hours later I was back in the ER in urinary retention. It was horrible. They drained 1,400 cc and sent me home with a Foley. This thing is driving me nuts, but what choice do you have. If there's one thing you MUST do, it's pee. Tired, gonna lay down. Just wanted to say that I'm back and on the mend.

Re: Home from surgery

Glad to hear you are home. I came home with a foley after spending 11 days in the hospital. I had the foley for 4 weeks total due to them putting a huge 1" hole in my bladder and having to take me back for surgery. It took that long for my bladder to heal.

I hope yours comes out soon! They are so uncomfortable.

Re: Home from surgery

Hey ww! I've been checking in anxiously and watching for your report. So glad to hear you're home and on the mend... though the catheter certainly sounds like a bummer.

I feel like we're sort of twins, since we started having problems at exactly the same time and are having the identical surgery exactly 3 weeks apart.

By the time I get to the Castle, you'll be well over the worst part and feeling great!!

Re: Home from surgery

Welcome home wordwizard. We have had similar surgery. I had urinary retention also and required an extra catheter to clear it. I was able to stay in hospital 4 days and leave the catheter there. Bladder and bowel are very gradually sorting themselves out.
Take care of yourself. Being peaceful really helps.

Re: Home from surgery

To the ladies who had catheters for weeks, I am in AWE of you. I'm a nervous wreck dragging this thing around and it just plain hurts where it goes in, as I walk. Hopefully tomorrow it will come out at my Dr. appt. I also have gas and cannot "poo" because of all the pain from my rectocele repair. Trying to has me trembling in pain and sweating. I guess I better high tail it on over to the postop board and the pelvic floor board for some help with that issue. Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to be on the other side "I think".... LOL Okay, back to bed I go.
