Small hard bump by the incision

I am 9 days post op and I feel a hard bump or mass by the lower part of my incision, has anyone else experience that. Is this normal or should I be concern?

Hi tillman11462~

There can be some firmer areas along the incision. If it is new or tender to the touch, I would suggest discussing it with your doctor. Hope you are coming along well in your healing.

Re: Small hard bump by the incision

I had this also, on the right side. Not any more painful there but just harder. Dr. said it could be fluid, and it eventually went away. Keep an eye on it just to be sure, and have it checked when you go for a post op visit, or before if you are concerned.
Take good care of yourself !!

Re: Small hard bump by the incision

Thank for your response. I think I am going to call the doctor on Monday because it also starting to feel funny with a urinate and it was not doing that before. I just do not want to have to go through another surgery. I have had three surgeries in the last year.

Does your doctor have an answering service? Perhaps you can talk to a doctor sooner so that you do not have to be so uncomfortable. Take care!

Re: Small hard bump by the incision

Yes, but he works with a group of doctors and they have different doctors on call on the weekend and this is not his weekend to be on call, that is why I am going to wait until Monday. I also have a low grade fever that I did go about and the doctor on call said that as long as it was not 100.4 that I should be alright. I am trying to walk more to see if that helps but the more I walk the more my left side hurts and it is now starting to hurt a little when I urinate. I am praying nothing else is wrong. I have had three surgeries in the last year. I am so tirer of pain.

Re: Small hard bump by the incision

Please don't hesitate to call them again. If you have an infection you will want to start treatment as soon as possible. Even if you have to go to the ER, do so. Just keep a close eye on your temp (I'm sure that you are already doing this, but I am concerned for you, sis).

Re: Small hard bump by the incision

I am keeping a closer watch on my temperature. I am taking it every three hours. If I do not feel better in the morning I will call and talk with the on call doctor on go to the hospital. I just hate it because my children are affect by it and if I go in the hospital one of them stays with me until I come home and that is hard on them.

Thank you for your concern and I will definitely let you know how things go.
