Re: estradiol anyone?

I was put on Estradiol 1.0 mg the morning after my surgery. So far, it is doing its job. My ovaries were already beginning to fail and I was already starting to go into menopause according to my doctor, so maybe that is the reason I am on a smaller dose.

Below is a 'cut and paste' from the American Cancer Society website:

"A separate part of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI), looked at women who had had a hysterectomy, and whose ovaries were either removed or had stopped working. Those who were taking only estrogens did not have an increased risk of breast cancer."

Hope this eases your fears. I think if anyone had the answers, it would be the American Cancer Society. My mother had breast cancer and this was a concern of mine, as well.

Lightbulb - estradiol anyone? Re: estradiol anyone?

I also was put on 0.1mg Estradiol the morning after my surgery. My ovaries had also both started to fail and I was in premenopause. My ovaries were most of the problem. I was having ovarian cysts monthly bialateral and my ovaries were adhered to my pelvic wall. There are many different doses. I would contact your GYN if you are concerned about the dosage.

Re: estradiol anyone?

I'm now on 1.5 mg Estradiol and have found it helpful, though I didn't need it till a few months ago when ovaries decided to [evidenty] fail. A bit of OTC progesterone is good too-keeps things in balance, as I was getting witchy with just estrogen.

I think 2 mg is the max dose-that's what Dr told me anyway. Hang in there, sounds like you're doing fine!

Re: estradiol anyone?

I have been on the Estradiol patch since my TAH/BSO on July 7th. I too had the max strenght. I was doing fine (better than I ever expected) until about 3 days later when I started to get severe insomnia! I was averaging 4 hours of sleep and was unable to nap at all during the day (which was NEVER a problem for me- did I mention I have a very active 2 yr old!)
My Dr. is on vacation but the PA said that the insomnia was not from my patch. I turly believe that it is because I had to use low dose birth control pills (way back when!). So since my doctor is out of town and I have an appointment with her next Monday- I cut my patch in half! We will see what happens.
Good luck with your Estradiol!

Re: estradiol anyone?

Insomnia appears to be common after a hysterectomy. I think it has hit me with a vengeance again. Sunday night and last night, I was unable to get more than an hour or two of sleep, and that was just bits here and there. If you search insomnia on this site, you will see many, many posts about it. Some have some natural remedy suggestions. Good luck to you.

Re: estradiol anyone?

I had a horrible time with insomnia after my surgery. I stayed on my vivelle dot patch and once I was balanced , no more insomnia. Hrt takes time to work and insomnia becomes less of a problem.

Re: estradiol anyone?

I have been on the Vivelle patch .05 since TAH on May 18th. I feel fabulous!! No more hot flashes or irritability.
I have more energy than I have in a few years.:jump
My insomnia is also lessening. Doc told me that this was normal and would improve with time.
I have noticed a huge improvment in my skin and nails.
Has anyone else noticed differences?

Re: estradiol anyone?

Sandy, not only are my complexion and nails much better, my pulse rate is consistently down about 20 points from before surgery. How could this surgery NOT have been a good thing for me?
