What's the Date?

This may sound like a dumb question but I never thought to ask it. What date do you start counting from to determine where you are in your aftercare cycle? For example there's the statement that if you are cancer free for 5 years after treatment then you can be considered cured (of Endometrial cancer). Does the clock start from the surgery date or from the date of the last radiation treatment?

Anyone know? I don't see one of my doctors for another 3 months and want to know now. thanks

What's the Date?

That is a really good question!! Well, I guess that you have to consider whether or not the cancer was removed from the surgery, which we are never really 100% on that. I would think for the benefit of the doubt, to say after your treatments have ended...then it's a guarantee!

What's the Date?

Hi June,
Long time no see!! Hope you are doing well!!
I agree with Cyd. I do believe that it is after the treatments are finished.
My mom had a cancerous kidney removed in 1973, she didn't require any treatment, and I know her 5 year mark was 5 years after the surgery.
So based on that, I am pretty sure its the end of the treatments thats used as the marker date. So for me, I am using Dec.22, 2005 at 2:00PM as my official date!!!

Hugs!!
Maria

What's the Date?

Hiya June,

Yep, Cyd and Maria, that's what the Dr told me anyway. Five yrs from the time the treatments (whatever type, surgery, radiation or chemo) are ended.

Here's to continued great checkups for everyone!

{{hugs}}
