Trying to make the right decision.

I found out end of June by my GP that I am one point from needing blood transfusions. My GP says if my OB will not do surgery that he will find someone that will. I saw my OB yesterday he gave me 5 options birth control pill, IUD premarin shot, DNC or hysterectomy. He wasn't going to force me to have hysterectomy trying to decide what is my best option. Please help me in the right direction! We did decide in his office that even during taking the pill my period is still to heavy and that a DNC is a temporary fix. So I have to decide wheither a IUD or premarin shot or hysterectomy is the answer.

Re: Trying to make the right decision.

not having to have a hysterectomy at all and having the premarin or iud work would be great. do lots of research on all your options and you'll know what the right decision for yourself is. what type of hysterectomy does your dr want to do? have you had any tests to see why you are bleeding so heavy?

Re: Trying to make the right decision.

He would like me to have the laproscopic surgery. Well I have had blood work up and we know that it is not an iron or vitamin deficancy. However, all the medicines they are giving me to build up my blood are giving me trouble. I just started a new one today. But so far I am having joint pain and a throbbing constantly in my head, as well as trouble going to sleep at night.

Re: Trying to make the right decision.

Did your doctor mention an ablation for you? It might be an option worth checking out. We have information in our Resource Database about the various types of ablations.

I do think it could be a good idea to have a laparoscopy and possibly a hysteroscopy before considering a hysterectomy. During a lap your doctor can see what might be going on on the outside of your uterus to be causing your problems. They hysteroscopy let's your doctor see if there is anything inside of your uterus that is the culprit. Knowing exactly what is causing the bleeding can help you determine what treatment option could be best for you! You are doing the right thing by asking questions and not jumping into a decision too quickly!

I had a lap, hysteroscopy, and D&C to help determine why I was having bleeding issues. For me, endometriosis was found. Knowing what the problem was helped me and my medical team make the best decision for me.

I would also suggest at least a second medical opinion before making your final decision. Another GYN may have some additional suggestions or reasons why one treatment option would be best for you!

I wish you all the best as you work through the pros and cons of each choice to decide what is right for you

Re: Trying to make the right decision.

Weiser and Dressed up in Blue,
I did check into several options I decided with the help of my GP and OB to have an HTA or endometrial abalation in December. It lasted 6weeks and the bleeding returned very unpredicatable tracking some heavy then some not. We went ahead with a Lap/Vaginal Hysterectomy on June 7th. Having trouble sleeping and some pain. But the nurse says its all related to healing. Thanks for all the advice and help. Hopefully I am on the road to recovery.
