What questions do you wish you had asked your doctor about HRT?

Good moring all,
I'm new and I'm feeling a little lost. I had a TAH/BSO on 6/2/09 for Stage IV endometriosis. I'm so confused about the HRT/no HRT question and the more I read the more confused I get. For those of you who have already been thru this what questions do you wish you had asked your doctor about HRT/no HRT?

Re: What questions do you wish you had asked your doctor about HRT?

Hi buckeyefan!

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling lost. I felt that way myself for quite a while after my TAH/BSO many years ago...I remember it well.

Although I had the same surgery you did, it was for different reasons. Did your qynecolgist recommend HRT for you? From what I have read here on the site, many endometriosis patients are advised not to use it. But this is truly not anything I know about from first-hand experience.

In answer to your posted question, the only this I wish I would have asked was "Should I pay any attention at all to talk shows about HRT, general news articles about HRT and the like?"

The reason being: I was not aware at the time that general information that appears in the media about HRT does not pertain to those of us who have had their ovaries removed. The various reports and articles you may run across in newspapers and on television pertain to women in natural menopause, versus those in surgical menopause.

Based on my experience as a surgical menopause patient, what helped me most was the partnership in good health that I established with my primary provider, my family physician. He has successfully managed my HRT as well as other health issues for many years. I hope that you find a physician to assist you in your quest as well.

Many s and Best Wishes,
