urgency issues 10 months post op

hello,
i have ran into a few issues and was wondering is anyone else has had the same problems. about 2 weeks ago i woke up in the middle of the night with the urge to urinate, and that is very unusual for me,i never awake in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.as i went,i felt burning when i urinated and knew it was a uti. the next morning i called my dr.and she had me come in to give a urine specimen and they did find white blood cells, red blood cells, bacteria and some blood in it.i was given a antibiotic (sulfa/trimeth) to take for 10 days.on about my 7th day i contacted my doctor because i still had that constant urgency to urinate, even if i had just gone.she ran the urine again and said it had come back clean,no infection was found. it has now been 3 weeks and this is driving me crazy.she did a pap smear and every thing was fine.she suggested i see a urologist and i made a appointment and got in yesterday. they also did a urine check and said it was normal.he thinks i may still have a infection hidden behind the bladder, which he said will not read positive in the urine sample.(something like that) he put me on another antibiotic, macrobid, and told me to take it for 2 weeks and also gave me vesicare for the urgency. the antobiotic has done nothing, which i knew it wouldn't,i'm not sure it's a infection.the constant urge to pee all the time is driving me insane.i also have noticed since i've had this is i feel a burning sensation down there on the outside of the entire area.it isn't constant but it too is bothersome.i'm not sure if i should call my doctor that did my hysterectomy to see if he can tell me why i'm constantly having to go,or if there is anything they can do? has anyone else experienced symptoms like this after there hysterectomy? any info would be greatly appreciated!
i should also add that nothing was done to my bladder during surgery. i only had my uterus removed. everything else was left in place. hysterectomy was for fibroids.

Re: urgency issues 10 months post op

Hi there, I have had a similar problem since last October. My Gyn thought it was due to prolapse and sent me to a urogyn who did Hysterectomy etc. After the surgery you can imagine my sadness when I realize I still have the same problem. Anyway, I put myself on the bladder diet and it has made a huge difference. I plan to stay on it for a month and then try to introduce certain foods back in.

The diet basically is no caffeine, no fizzy drinks, no acidic foods or drinks (fruit juice, many fruits, tomatoes etc.), No alcohol and no spicy foods. Yes, it is limiting and I do hope that after a month a I will be able to go back on most if not all foods. I am also doing some further testing with my Dr. but it is so nice to not have that urgency in the mean time.

Hope this helps,

Maybe you could use some estrogen? Sometimes there is a burning down there and the urge to pee when estrogen is low. Do you have vaginal burning as well?
I have my ovaries too but they shut down after the surgery. I use estriol every night and vagifem several times weekly and this has helped that burning for me. maybe give your dr. a call and ask about the above. I've read where alot of women on here use the premarin vaginal cream and it helps urinary burning.
The only other thing I can think of could be interstitial cystitis.
Talk to you dr. about the suggestions above if this continues.

Re: urgency issues 10 months post op

It was low estrogen for me too. I had a bladder infection 3 weeks postop and although the infection was cleared with Cipro, the symptoms of urgency, frequency and burning remained. My Dr. said it was probably low estrogen. I started on premarin vaginal cream and the symptoms cleared right up. When i first started the cream i was only using it topically 3 times a week on my vulva. It was still enough to clear up the symptoms.

Re: urgency issues 10 months post op from lsh

i guess this could be a estrogen problem, i never knew that low estrogen could cause urinary urgency. it is odd that it never bothers or keeps me awake at night, i only have the constant urgency during the day. no, i do not have any burning when i urinate, but constantly all day long i feel like i'm on fire down there. what had really scared me was last year i had this same problem and that was what led to my hysterectomy. my obgyn said i had a large fibroid pressing on my bladder and the was the cause for my lsh. i guess i was trying to make sure fibroids can't grow back. my family doctor has never recommended another sonogram to see if this is the cause so evidently this is not likely. i will call my obgyn in the morning and see if she can do something about this cream. are there any tests they run to see if you have low estrogen? my obgyn will most likely laugh at me and tell me low estrogen is not likely because i'm only 34. please let me know if any tests can check for this or anything else it could be. thank you!
