Breast Cancer Issues...

I was just informed that Lifetime is trying to obtain signatures pertaining to the hospital stay for a mastectomy. The insurance companies want to give ONE NIGHT, however under the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act this can be changed!! Please take a look at the site...if not for yourself, then maybe for a loved one. Thanks ladies!!

Thanks Cyd!!
I signed the petition as well. Being in Canada, we don't have these issues with insurance companies to deal with thank the good Lord. From reading posts here it just amazes me how frustrating it must be to have to deal with them.

I do however, even being here, feel that all too often patients seem to be rushed out of the hospital far too soon.

I remember mom always saying that she looked forward to her 10 day hospital stay after having a baby ( she had 9 of us ). It was a break for her. Now women are lucky if they get to stay 24 hours it seems. Very sad indeed.

Breast Cancer Issues...

Hi
I signed the petition. I can't believe that they are trying to do this! I stayed nearly 3 days for my lumpectomy! Was supposed to stay two but had complications. No way - leaving in just one day after a mastectomy! Shame on them!

Breast Cancer Issues...

Hi, I had a modified radical mastectomy almost 6 years ago. Stayed overnight and went home with 2 drains. Took care of myself. It was fine. I was thrilled to get out of the hospital and go home!
When the DR. told me I'd go home that soon, I was surprised. He said if there were any problem they'd keep me longer.
I'm conflicted about posting this as it may make someone feel more comfortable with a longer hospital stay and certainly if it's necessary, there should be no question.
Unlike a hyst, a mastectomy is a fairly simple operation. Today, you always know you're having it. So psychologically you're pretty prepared beforehand and sitting in the hospital won't help anyway.
My doctor told me if I needed help with the drains, they'd send a visiting nurse. But it was really simple.
Maybe I'm the exception, but that was my experience.
