Vaginal cuff seroma and pain

I am 10 days post op and developed intense pain, watery discharge and fever over the weekend. I saw my dr today and was diagnosed with a seroma in the vaginal cuff and infection. I was put on antibiotics and percocet and go back in tomorrow to recheck white count. If not starting to get better I will need to be readmitted for IV antibiotics.

Has anyone else had experience with this? I am looking for any input and advice that anyone has to offer. Thanks

Re: Vaginal cuff seroma and pain

Mine was very similiar but I only have a hematoma not a seroma ( no drainage) It is extremely painful. The top of the vag vault filled with a fluid and is draining obviously mixed fluid part blood and bacteria. If the oral pills do not work you want it cleared up as fast as possible so IV antibiobitics are stronger also -IV pain meds It would be a shorted duration of taking them but it does mean a hosp trip. I'm sorry you are going through this but sometimes they don't find it until 2 weeks after sux like me

Re: Vaginal cuff seroma and pain

I had something similar happen around day 10 as well - extremely painful! My dr. has not identified it as a vaginal cuff seroma, however I had to see a urologist last Friday to see if it was a fistula between the bladder and vagina - he found no fistula but an opening in the vaginal cuff through which all this fluid is draining ... and draining ... and draining ...

I have to wear a catheter until next Friday as a precaution, since there might still be a pinprick size fistula and this will give the bladder a chance to heal itself. This in combination with the drainage makes me feel totally yucky. However the day the fluid broke through (day 17) the pain was almost completely gone!

Ultimately I'm taking this as a lesson in acceptance and patience (not my strong suits!).

Good luck!
