Looks like I'm a mess inside again

Officially I have to wait to see surgeon to get the results of the exploratory lap, but I found out more this morning. I'm a diet controlled diabetic and went to the clinic this morning as my blood sugars have been erratic since taking the GnRH in March for 3 months. The clinic is run at my GPs surgery. I asked the nurse if any correspondence had arrived from the hospital. She pulled up this letter on screen and I managed to read some of it but she wasn't keen that I read it and said I had to ask my GP.

However, I found out that I had severe adhesions again. My sigmoid colon was stuck to my vagina yet again. My bowel was stuck to the pelvic side wall on the right. No ovarian tissue was found on the right. The left hand side was totally obscured again and he couldn't comment on whether there was tissue there. This is where I have been having problems since the TAH/BSO 4 and a half years ago. This is all I managed to read.

Last surgeon who did the excision surgery said that it was unlikely the adhesions would come back as he used a liquid barrier and he thought I would be clear of the endometriosis. Something has caused the left hand side to be obscured. I suspected ovarian tissue.

Odd thing is that the majority of the pain since this last surgery has been on the right. Could it be that this is the only side he could disturb whilst looking? I last felt the cyclic stabbing pain on the left just at the end of the GnRH treatment. I still had the general background pain in this area between stopping the GnRH and this surgery (7 weeks). Since the surgery even this background pain has decreased. The right hand pain isn't bad now, but I'm still having a real battle with my bowels and bladder. I went to empty my bladder 6 times in 3 hours this morning. My belly button has stopped bleeding and is healing nicely. My bruising is still visible and I have to watch which clothes I wear: I'm 3 weeks post op today. This is definitely the worst lap recovery I've had. I don't think Hubby wants me to have any more surgeries as this one has really upset him.

I'm back to work on Monday for 1 week, then off on leave for 2. Still haven't got a follow up appointment through with the surgeon. I feel happier after this morning though, at least I know a little more.

Sorry for the rambling post!

Have you been to see the surgeon yet?

Re: Looks like I'm a mess inside again

I haven't got an appointment yet. I rang the hospital just after I last posted and was told it would be the 8 , 15 or 22 September (ie 6 to 8 weeks wait) The surgeon's secretary has faxed to the appointments office but I still haven't heard back. I had to see my GP on Monday and got a copy of the surgeon's letter. He has concerns about the adhesions reforming after having such extensive adhesiolysis.

Will let you know the outcome when I eventually get to see the surgeon

Re: Looks like I'm a mess inside again

Hi looks like you and me have same prob, I had TAH March 2002, severe bowel adhesions formed, I had surgery for them in April 2007, they used a barrier on me too ADEPT, looks like mine have returned again, lot's of trouble with stomach pain, feeling sick and I run to the loo around ten times a day, i am re scheduled to have the surgery done again 9th Sept by lap, not looking forward to it, took him over an hour and half to do last time, pain from this op was far worse than pain from hysterectomy, took me around 8 weeks to recover, out of curiosity where are you in the UK?

Re: Looks like I'm a mess inside again

The dates are from the exploratory surgery done on the 24 July. Apparently the follow up must be within 6 to 8 weeks of the surgery. He has a clinic Tuesday afternoons.

I live in Lancashire janeb but don't have surgery there. I've given up hope of being sorted by my local hospital. I pass near to where you live quite frequently when I go to Yorkshire on the motorway.

Re: Looks like I'm a mess inside again

I feel a lot better thanks. Pain is OK now, but I'm not fully healed. It has been 5 weeks. Surgeon expected me to go back to work on the Monday after the surgery on the Friday. I worked week 4 ( struggled a little) but have been on leave this week. I still can't wear all my normal clothes. Nothing tight around my middle. Can still see where I'm bruised. Bowels and bladder still playing up, but that isn't unusual. Have to take prescribed laxative every day. I never expected to feel like this after just an exploratory, no treatment.
