How do you deal with sleeplessness?

It's 11pm where I live - time to call it a day, but I'm worried about another night of a few hours sleep & many hours of tossing & turning. Any suggestions from fellow insomniacs?

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

I'd like an answer to that myself. I've tried some PM medicines and they sometimes work but not always and I don't want to take them all the time. I just started HRT and the doctor thinks that will eventually help. I've been drinking Sleepytime tea the past few nights with honey--can't say that's helped. Last night I was up for a couple hours with RLS--can't win! Tonight I'm going to have a big glass of wine! If I don't sleep maybe I just won't care!

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

I have sleepless nights sometimes, fortunately not every night. I book good results with meditation. Sometimes I fall asleep afterwards, sometimes even while doing it (that is not what should happen, I know, but if it works, it works). LOL

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

My sleep has improved a good bit since my first week post-op, but my method for falling asleep is to listen to waterfall sounds on my ipod. Usually this will allow me to drift off to sleep.

Sometimes I drink milk before bed too.

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

Those first few weeks are just really hard with no sleep. I took melatonin & when I was desperate Ambein but I can't say as either one helped me. I tried the tea also. Hang in there. It will get better.

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

Hi,
I'm going on 3 week post op and finally the insomnia has left me. It may just be a side effect from the surgery. I read some posts regarding this when I was in my first week of recovery and a couple people suggested eating a light snack before bedtime. I tried it and it worked, although I did not want to get into the habit of it, because I'm overweight to begin this and didn't want the extra calories, lol. But it worked.

Good luck!

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

I haven't found anything yet...I've been reading a book until late and I'm so tired I can't keep my eyes open UNTIL I put the book down!!!

I keep reading these posts eagerly to see if someone has come up with something.

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

I had insomnia the first 4 weeks after surgery! Wow, what an experience. I finally got my sleep back naturally that 5th week with God's help. Hang in there, it will come back. When do you return to work? Please rest, Lady.

Re: How do you deal with sleeplessness?

I slept! I slept last night! Six straight hours!
The secret? Miss enough nights sleep and eventually you actually do fall asleep...from TOTAL exhaustion!
