Re: Are you supposed to shave/not shave before TVH

Unless you are instructed to do so, it is best not to shave prior to your surgery. In fact, your surgery could be canceled if you shave and you are not suppose to. The reason being if you did nick yourself you increase your risk for an infection.

Typically, your doctor and hospital will not want you to shave yourself. Instead, if shaving is needed, it will be done for you in either the Pre Op area or after you are in OR.

Also, not all doctors require shaving. I had a lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy and no shaving was done.

Best wishes to you for your upcoming procedure!

Re: Are you supposed to shave/not shave before TVH

I had a LAVH/LSO and I was instructed NOT to shave. They said that the razor can iritate the skin and increase the risk of infection. I was shaved with electric clippers after I was already out in the OR. It was kinda wierd when I woke up and EVERYTHING was shaved off, not even a small patch left. I would say better to be safe and let them do it if it is needed. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Re: Are you supposed to shave/not shave before TVH

My surgeon told me not to shave. She said if she needed anything shaved she would do it herself.

They used the electric clippers on me right before I went into surgery. I had trimmed but they took care of how much they wanted to be gone. I would Not shave though. They will worry about infection.

Re: Are you supposed to shave/not shave before TVH

I was told not to shave; they did it while I was in the OR.
My daughter in law is an anesthesia-assistent and she told me that the risk of infection is lower when shaved in OR than when you do it yourself.

I wasn't told anything but I'd read on here not to, so I didn't. They shaved me some in the OR after I was out.

Re: Are you supposed to shave/not shave before TVH

I just waxed my legs and bikini line today. My DVH is the day after tomorrow, yikes! I knew that it would be very difficult to maintain my usual grooming after the surgery so thats why I did it. My doctor didn't give me any info on that. I'm going to wax my forearms tomorrow too because I just remembered how bad it hurts when the nurse removes your IV.

Waxing isn't for everyone but I love it. The hair is gone for 4-6 weeks and it grows back with NO STUBBLE. I've been waxing for 20 years.
