Strange question...

I am having a LAVH/BSO on the 24th. I know I will be in surgical menopause but I was wondering if I would still have the same or similar cravings that I get each month right before I start my period? Usually I want a snickers bar and/or chocolate milk shake and then go through a couple days of feeling irritable. Will that all stop after I no longer have periods?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I was just wondering.

Re: Strange question...

Hi Hannie!

I had my uterus and ovaries removed six years ago and afterwards didn't notice any difference in food cravings. Of course, your experience could be different.

Are you planning to use HRT (hormone replacement therapy) to provide the hormones your ovaries make?

Re: Strange question...

Hi Hannie,

I had a LAVH on 7/20/09...it ended up being a complete hysterectomy-therefore I also went into surgical menopause...I haven't had any cravings or felt irritable (and did before)...however, I don't know if it's because two weeks post-op, I was put on HRT. (Climara patch .05) I was hoping to avoid it, but hot flashes were "horrible..."

Good Luck on your surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery!

Re: Strange question...

Thanks for the replies

I cant go on HRT because I had blood clots in my lungs in 2004 and they dont know why...hormones of any kind (includind birth control pills) are not an option for me because they increase the chance of clots. I was just wondering if I was still going to have the "excuse" to have my monthly snickers bar LOL ...but honestly I wasnt sure if I would still have the typical PMS type things happen.

Re: Strange question...

I still feel when I ovulate & when it would be that time of the month I can tell. It is all the same without the bleeding of course!

Re: Strange question...

Have no fear! You may get new cravings . Dark chocolate is good for menopausal symptoms . I lost both ovaries and don't have any PMS symptoms.
