you didn't need those parts anymore

Has anyone else had people say to them, "I don't know why you're upset at having a hysterectomy, you didn't need your uterus anyway."?? I have any number of folks say that, male and female -- it drives me crazy. I understand that I needed the hysterectomy due to endometrial cancer, however I don't feel relieved to have had to undergo major surgery.

Yes, it is a shame to here such things. I think it comes mainly from people being ignorant about the body and how it functions.

I'd just say "if they're so unimportant, then why was I BORN WITH THEM?!"

Yes we do need them. Ignorance is bliss.

After suffering from pelvic prolapses after my hyster my answer to them now would be: In fact I do need ALL of it to keep my pelvic organs from falling, maintaining the ability to have normal voiding and bowel movements. I also need my ovaries so that I don't have to be on HRT for the rest of my life or develop heart disease or osteoporosis.

I have learned that people do not understand what they have not been through.

A good friend actually told me "I've been looking for an excuse to have that surgery!" Really? Give me a break, I was so upset after that one. People tell me all the time how I don't have to worry about getting pregnant now or spending $$ on birth control, either.
