26 Days Post-Op-Confused about how I Feel

Hi. Had a TAH/BSO almost 4 weeks ago. My recovery has been great, no complications, no hormonal effects.

I find that I am in a state of confusion right now. I planned to go back to work today and then had a fitful night's sleep last night and was way too tired to get up. I tried to justify it all day long (to myself) that it's just too soon but inside I feel guilty and weak about not going.

Also, I feel more pain than I used to. Or do I? Is it just that I'm thinking about it more because I'm focusing on it? When I wasn't thinking about going to work, I was pleased with how minor the pain was. Now that I am imagining myself at work, I notice more pain. I think I'm crazy!

I'm ashamed to admit I still take about 2 Vicodin a day. It seems that most of you are off of the pain meds so that makes me feel weak and confused too. I can't say the pain warrants Vicodin because it's not severe but Advil and Tylenol just don't do the trick. The Vicodin seems to make me feel "normal" and I have more energy. I thought pain meds made you tired but they don't do that to me. I really only feel good when I take it.

I would appreciate any advice or similar experiences anyone out there may have. Sometimes, I think I just have too much time to think. I also absolutely love being home so much! I never thought I would because I love working but this has been pretty cool. I see my family more, cook, walk, etc. It's the life of luxury so maybe I just want to enjoy it a little longer.

Thanks for being out there, sisters! Hope everyone is doing well!

Re: 26 Days Post-Op-Confused about how I Feel

As my surgeon (bless him) said to me- you deserve it.

I had an LAVH, and even though my HR said the "standard" time out was 4 weeks, there is absolutely no way I could have gone back then. I had complications, so ended up out for 8, but my doc was not going to let me go back sooner than 6 weeks.

I totally understand how you feel about liking being home. I loved it- and life of luxury? That is called healing time, and don't knock yourself for needing the pain meds. I was on Percocet and even though I didn't necessarily need them for pain, I took 1 at night before bed for the first 4 weeks because it made me sleep straight through.

Each one of us is different, so the most important thing you can do is LISTEN to YOUR body- and treat it kindly- it (and you) have been through a lot. Hang in there, and I hope you feel better soon (hugs)
