Multiple Adhesion Surgeries...No Relief, Any ideas to help with the pain?

TAH 4/6/2007 - I have had two adhesion surgeries since. The first one in 4/2008, I thought was very successful...then the pain was worse within 6 or so months. The next surgery, 4/2009...total failure from the moment I got out of surgery.

I rarely have fun any more and sex is painful. Not being able to live my life is straining my marriage...husband is getting sick and tired of the situation and giving me a huge hassle (not making this any better).

My OB/Gyn, GP, and Gastro Specialist all have given up on me saying there is nothing they can do for me. I am so frustrated and not sure where to turn next.

Another surgery seems like a waste of time and money. Pain pills dull my mind more than the pain. Exercise puts me to tears for days.

Has anyone tried theraputic massage? Anyone else with a similar situation? Any ideas...for anything?

I don't have a lot of money but am willing to fly or drive to a reputable care giver on my insurance plan or not.

Thank you for the opportunity to vent. I am just tired of not living life!

((SuzSky))

I am so sorry that you are suffering so!

Because you are willing to travel, I would suggest doing some research and try to find some type of pelvic pain specialist or an adhesion specialist. You might check with large hospitals or teaching hospitals. You could ask your current doctors for recommendations. Maybe a fertility specialist or gynecological oncologist would have the skills and knowledge to help you. My endometriosis specialist is also a pelvic pain specialist who deals with adhesions so someone like that might be helpful.

To deal with your pain right now while you look for a knowledgeable physician, you may want to consider pain management. Sometimes they are able to use a combination of medications to help offer you relief. I would also suggest checking with chiropractors, massage therapists, pelvic floor physical therapists, etc. and see if any of them could offer you help and/or suggestions. Your insurance company may also be able to direct you to some type of services.

I know it is hard to live with pain day in and day out! in there and keep searching for help!

I was going to give the same advice as Weiser gave. You can google the International Pelvic Pain Society, it is an informative site. Good luck, I'm so sorry for your pain.

I am so sorry about your situation. I am going thru the same thing right now. I have basically been told I am a cancer patient without cancer. Doctors dont know what to do with me. Its been a very long painful road. And there is no end in site. I pray that you can find a doc that is willing to try to help you.

Re: Multiple Adhesion Surgeries...No Relief, Any ideas to help with the pain?

I had a radical hyst 12 years ago and had been pain free until 3 days ago when the pain returned. Its not quite as bad, but still the same place, same feeling, same pulling - I'm so depressed. I"m so sorry you have gone through so much and are still in pain. I am on pain meds now and will try to see my gyno as soon as possible.
I feel like I am already going into a depression. So scared.

Re: Multiple Adhesion Surgeries...No Relief, Any ideas to help with the pain?

Ive had surgery 2002 still have one overy and adhesions overy has a cyst on it. Lately the pain has been awful in lower right side and back too and my bowl movements have been pencil thin and before them the pain is unbelievable, I am putting heatin pads on and have concidered taking painkiller to see if it helps but I hate that stuff. I am having a colonoscopy on the 30 to see if the adhesions are twisting or blocking intesting . But the pain is getting bad. Boy I do not regret having my hysterectomy at all. but I dont want more surgery thats for sure.

Re: Multiple Adhesion Surgeries...No Relief, Any ideas to help with the pain?

Suzsky, I forgot to ask - who is managing your pain? If your not already being treated by a pain management specialist that has an interest in chronic pelvic pain I suggest you visit one. I was seeking a pain management specialist for a few months after my hyst and it was much better than being managed by my doctor but then I switched to a PM doctor that has an interest and experience with pelvic pain. What a difference it makes. Even though the doctors believe the next surgery should address my pain, this doctor is taking my pain very seriously. He never minimizes it and is concerned about my activity level, other physical ailments or complaints, my family life. He sincerely realizes how debilitating pelvic pain can be. He has been able to get my pain under enough control that can get out of bed and function a bit.
Another suggestion may be trying to take baths. Two doctors and PT kept suggesting it to me and I finally tried it. It took about 4 baths before I started to feel benefit but after that I started to feel better. I'm not a bath person but they do help relax the body. The pain makes us so tense but the warm water and twenty minutes can help to undue some of it. If nothing else it can't hurt.
