Swollen legs and feet.....

After a full hysto-abdominal incision- my arms were swollen. Sugery was on 9-16-09, was sent home today being told by one nurse to avoid the "Pringles, salty fries and soda" (because I'm just sneaking this stuff in left and right?) another nurse said it's probably from IV fluid. The "pringles" nurse said to avoid too much fliud, but I need water! My legs and feet are beyond swollen, my feet are actually buised and pringles nurse acknowledged the broken blood vessels in my feet!!!!!

Is this normal? My hands are still swollen, and I'm as active as possible, but also very exhausted.

Help?

Re: Swollen legs and feet.....

OK, Pringles Nurse, that just makes me laugh soooo hard! I am picturing a Pringles can with a head on it!

Anyway, to be serious, I was very swollen after surgery. It's true, those IV fluids take a long time to get out of your system. My legs and feet would swell up so badly everyday for the first week or two.

As for drinking water, drink away! As contradictory as it sounds, the water will actually help with the swelling.

Of course, mention this to your doctor, I did and was told it was normal.

Best wishes to you and your recovery. Take care!

Re: Swollen legs and feet.....

Thank you SO much, I feel so much better knowing this is normal and happened to someone else, my mom said to go back to the ER, but pringles nurse scared me for life.

I've been trying to keep up on the fluids, so glad to hear that will help. Thank you so much.
