Re: Is it okay to have a few drinks?

Hi trifecta!

If you are off pain medications and feel good otherwise I doubt a no-alcohol restriction would apply. When I was released from the hospital my post-op written instructions didn't prohibit indulging but if you have special circumstances and concerns it wouldn't hurt to check with your medical provider about this.

Re: Is it okay to have a few drinks?

Hiya,

I had a few drinks last Thursday (three weeks and three days post-op) and all was well. If you're not taking any meds that might react poorly with alcohol, I don't see a problem.

Re: Is it okay to have a few drinks?

Hi As you've already heard, if you're off the pain meds, it should be OK, provided you're not on any other meds that react with alcohol (certain antibiotics, for one). However, if you're on estrogen replacement, take it slowly... you may find that your tolerance is much lower than it was before. Also, alcohol competes with estrogen for the liver's resources, so you may find that your ankles will swell up when you drink alcohol if you are on HRT.

When in doubt, of course, call your DR's office and ask.

Re: Is it okay to have a few drinks?

Thank you for all your imput. I am off all the pain meds, except advil. I kept my ovaries so I am not on anything for hormones.

Glad it hear it should be OK,,, I am looking forward to getting out for a little bit. That is if I don't fall asleep in my dinner plate I am so tired!!!
