Doc going in lapro, giving it a shot

My doc is going to try lapro. She thinks it is worth a shot. I had previously had colon surgery (open) and then incisional hernia (open). Will it work, or will I wind up with open. Guesses?
Help..

Hi Bumbie85,

I don't think anyone here can really answer that. I'm sure that your Dr. will try and attempt the surgery laprascopically, as it would be a quicker recovery time for you.
I think that the possiability is there for any of us who have had a laprascopic procedure done.
Wishing you the best!

Re: Doc going in lapro, giving it a shot

I think many/most women are told there is a possibility of converting to an open procedure prior to laproscopic surgery. It sounds like your doctor feels you are a good candidate to attempt laproscopic surgery but we never know what we look like inside until the surgery begins and the initial scope is inserted. Good luck

Re: Doc going in lapro, giving it a shot

I don't know what your chances of converting to open are either. Maybe your doctor could give you a rough percentage to work with just so you know. I assume you want to know just for peace of mind.

I agree that it sounds like your doc thinks you're a good candidate for lap. That's great since the recovery is shorter and, it sounds, easier.

I'm having a RALH on Wednesday & know there's a chance of conversion, but am willing to take that risk to be rid of my health issues. I really hope it doesn't convert, but if it does, I will have confidence that my doc did everything he could to prevent it and that he thought it would be safer/better for me to convert if it happens.

I hope this helps!! God bless you, girl!
