Question - Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19 Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

This is going to be a long week. I think my rectocele and cycstocele is getting worse by the week or even day. TMI-it is now slightly bulging out of the vaginal opening! I feel like my insides are falling out... well I guess they are. I actually took a picture of it tonight (don't laugh) but I thought it would be a good before/after reference to keep with my OR pics of my ovaries.

Did anyone have slight bleeding/bloody spots when wiping? I thought maybe because the prolapse is visible when wiping the skin is just thin and tears easily?? It is just barely noticeable but wasn't sure what to think of it.

I find myself avoiding even thinking about the surgery or recovery because it just freaks me out. I did so well with all my others but for some reason this one has me a little scared. At least my timing was good as I will be at home for all the holidays, I will be out until Dec 28, 6 weeks off and then 4 weeks 1/2 days.

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

Nicole,

Sorry you're dealing with this... try to think of how much better you'll feel once it is repaired and healed BTW I PM'd prior to reading your post...

My cystocele and rectocele are still at opening but since wearing pads 24/7, I can say that I also have some very light bleeding ... also the bulging is worse when in a standing position...

You've been through so much already ... try not to be freaked out as you've done your research, have faith in your doc, and are doing everything you can to make this a successful long-lasting procedure...

Hopefully this will be the final pic for your procedure photo album

Best wishes for strength, courage, and a peaceful week leading to a smooth surgery and uneventful rapid recovery,
Kathy

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

Thanks Kathy, I just replied to your PM.

I have been wearing pads too and had a bit of a cold last week. Do I need to say more with having SUI. I am going to have some more extra fiber in my diet and water this week in preparation. I think I can get a running start here.

Sidebar: I was talking with my aunt this weekend, whom I consider to be fairly informed on the facts of life. As well as my 53 y/o mom on Friday(who ALSO had a hyster for the same CervCa at the same age) and I realized how little some women know about the functions and anatomy of our bodies. Keep in mind they know I kept my ovaries and had the cervix removed due to CervCa... This is how it went down. My mother wondered if they will be removing my cervix when they repair the rectocele and my aunt wanted to know if I will be having another hysterectomy. Gotta love 'em.

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

Nicole,

I'm rolling from the sidebar... thank you for sharing...

appreciated the "running" start as well... my doc's office suggested flax seed supplements if you find yourself a bit constipated... (also something common after the rectocele repair and traditional pain medicine)...they really worked for me... and now doing the same as you with increased fiber and water so haven't had to take...

thanks again for the humor!

I am new to this but I think I have something bulging out seems more on right side than middle. Does this sound familiar. BTW I have no uterus or cervix..

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

My uterus and cervix has also been removed. IMO a bulge there is most likely some prolapse to a degree, be sure to mention it to your doctor.

I have bulge on the front (anterior vaginal wall) from the urethra/bladder prolapse and on the back (posterior) from the rectum and they touch each other. If I touch it, I can run my finger from one side of the prolapse to the other over a long bulge of tissue protruding into the vagina. It is now visible also. It is considerable bigger and more prominent now than it was even 6 months ago.

My rectocele repair incision will be from the top to the bottom of the vaginal canal.

Hope this helps to compare to.

I will be having rectocele repair in Dec (no exact date yet). I know I'll get my questions answered at my pre-op appt, but did you dr say anything about the perineum and any "work" there? He told me I would be uncomfortable sitting for several weeks. I had a 4th degree episiotomy with my first delivery, and that was worse than my hysterectomy.

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

So glad to find this post...I had a vag hyster in Mar this year and am having a rectocele repair Oct 29th surgeon I think forgot about it during hyster....seems also to be worsening by the day!! Have a cold with a cough and well that is fun - think my insides are falling out! Surgeon said posterior repair is extremely painful! Yippee... did not think hyster was too bad but am sick to my stomach about this surgery. Pre-op visit is next week, family is thrilled that Mom will be out of commission again...I guess March was not all that long ago for them!

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

jsrl247, I also had a 4th degree episiotomy with my first 16 years ago. It is unfortunately all I can think about when I think about this recovery. It was awful. My hysterectomy and subsequent sling removal was a breeze compared to that. So I am very afraid. My surgeon did not mention cutting the perineum but an incision from the top of the vagina to the bottom. I am also having a pubovaginal sling done.

I do feel a lot of pressure "down there" as if everything is being held back by a thread. I will definitely be posting my progress on here and let you all know what my experience with recovery is. I will be on medical leave for 6 weeks and then 2-4 weeks half days, pretty much till the end of the year! Happy Holidays...

Re: Rectocele getting worse by the day - Surgery 10/19

omg.... I really thought I was the only one with the 4th degree episiotomy.... with my first... my doc was of the older variety and I was looking for experience to handle what ever might happen... never thought about checking his eyesight...

I knew it was bad when the nurses came to check the incision and shrieked.... took about 2 and 1/2 months to heal... as he not only went long and deep, he went crooked... doc retired shortly thereafter ... I wasn't kidding about older... and ever since, I sometimes have to help bowels by pushing on the perineum... not fun, but works... and since I've a beautiful battle wound, I've been asked by every gyn since what sort of problems I had with the delivery....

like Nicole, my rectocele repair procedure only entails the cutting inside the vaginal wall... not the perineum...
