HRT + Thyroid Meds + Anti Depressant Meds H-E-L-P !!!

Hi Ladies, I have surgical induced menopause from my surgery on Sept 26th. My surgery was HBSO (hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy) via Da Vinchi Laparoscopy. Anyway.....I'm so confused about hormone therapy (I'm 45). I was prescribed Premarin before leaving the hospital and have been on that since. Yesterday started getting bad irritability, anger, anxiety etc. I am unfortunately on Anti-depressants and thyroid meds, so now i'm on one more endo med. Is this enough to throw me into crazyville? I can't decide if I need to discuss this all with my Gyn (not the one that did surgery) or an Endocrinologist or go to a bio-identical pharmacy and try to work on just my hormones or all three????????? I like what bio identical seminar claims with their hormones, my surgeon however says they are a crock, they are synthetic as well. H-E-L-P !!! I'm sorry I have so many questions, obviously I'm overwhelmed.

Re: HRT + Thyroid Meds + Anti Depressant Meds H-E-L-P !!!

Hi. I'm in the same boat as you. Had everything removed, take anti-depressant and thyroid med. But, I am not on any HRT. I have been doing pretty well but have noticed I'm not feeling as well as I had been. Getting a little down and feeling blah.

I have called my OB/GYN to see if my hormone levels should be checked. I think you should talk to your doc too. There has to be a way for this to level off.

Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon!

Re: HRT + Thyroid Meds + Anti Depressant Meds H-E-L-P !!!

Hi. I'm in the same situation as well. I know that it takes awhile for your body to adjust to what has just happened. Nothing feels quite right. I've had some issues with oral estrogen having an impact on my thyroid function (TSH level). Your Dr can check that out easy enough.

My advice is to become as much of an expert as possible. Read all you can. Become your own advocate. I've learned that when a Dr.'s thinking is so black and white, I just have to move on. You can't always find answers in Drs who don't try to think outside of what they were taught in medical school. After over 20 years of this, I've learned to trust my own intuition and my body even when the Dr tells me otherwise. Time usually proves me right. You'll know when you find a Dr that is really in it to help you!

Good Luck!

Re: HRT + Thyroid Meds + Anti Depressant Meds H-E-L-P !!!

Well count me in! I'm having many of the same questions. Luckily, I have 2 fabulous MD's helping me negotiate this jungle. You have my sympathy of trying to figure out what to tinker with. One thing you might want to ask of your MD's if who wants to manage what issue.

The advice offered before was right on. Additionally, I've started taking a multivitamin with my ET (as advised in the hormone jungle) This has been helpful to me. Also, I take an Omega 3. I'm currently working on cleaning up my diet to help my body adjust to the changes. I've seen a acupuncturist/Chinese medicine practitioner for mood. This has been really great.

Interested to hear what others are doing to help with this.

Re: HRT + Thyroid Meds + Anti Depressant Meds H-E-L-P !!!

Ladies, I am one year ahead of most who replied in this thread...in fact, this week marks the one year anniversary...
I felt someone okay til about the 3 rd month after surgery than crashed hard...as I understand what remaining hormones that were stored up in the body get used up by then.

It was very hard going...and frustrating to me that docs don't tell you what you will go through...its common
I went to a bioidentical doc...he has helped and been available to help me tweak things as I need...it hasn't been overnite...but bit by bit I found solutions...and am really finally starting to feel better....one year later...so have patience...and be proactive...I researched my symptoms and found supplements and even a juice that helped me with some symptoms.
I feel for you just walking through this year and am glad you are here to glean from others on this site...its very helpful.
