Highly Suspicious for Pre-Cancerous Cells

Pap test results came back on 10/8/09 as "High Suspicious for Pre-Cancerous Cells". On Friday (just two days ago), I had a D&C and am expecting results tomorrow.

What are options? Obviously if it's Cancer, I'm looking at a hysterectomy but what about pre-cancer? What comes next? Does that automatically mean I'm facing a hysterectomy too? How quickly will this happen?

Re: Highly Suspicious for Pre-Cancerous Cells

leigh -

There are some treatments that can be utilized to attempt to reverse "pre-cancer" (usually complex hyperplasia w/ atypia) but those are tried if pregnancy is going to be attempted right away.

Once the treatments are discontinued, as I understand it, the pre-cancerous situation will return and with the % that goes to cancer it would lead to a hysterectomy as well.

Sending you big and we're here to support you.
