Bowel prep

Hello,
I had my pre-op and discussed the bowl prep and of course i am going to compare them to all of the other posts. I have to take dulcolax mid Monday morning then do fleet enema whcih I've nicked name the sump pump sick I know but need to find some humor. Sureger is 11-3. So my question is has anyone had to do both?. I am planning to
eat light Sunday, and jello and broth like doc say on Monday. Hving to do the laxative and the fleet , just wondering how my bottom is going to feel. Sure don't want to have an irritated private part before the surgery.

Re: Bowel prep

Hey,
I only had to do the milk of mag and a clear liquid diet all day. I started at 6am. things started to kick in around 10:30 and ended around 9pm. It wasn't too bad it did get a little tender but by Tuesday morning I couldn't tell that I was running to the br all day on Monday.

Re: Bowel prep

I did not have to do your type of bowel prep. I did a magnesium citrate (2 bottles) and stay on a liquid diet (jello allowed). I started around noon and was done by 9 pm or so. It was not that bad but I was a little sore from wiping but it went away the next day.

Good luck with your prep and surgery. There are plenty of people on here that have done your type of prep so they will be on here answering your question soon.

Using baby wipes each time you go to the bathroom should help. Good luck!

Re: Bowel prep

I had to do both once and my bottom did get a little tender. What helped me most was to stay very close to the potty and lots of soft wet wipes.

Best wishes.

For my last surgery, my bowel prep consisted of nothing to eat after breakfast and taking Pico Salix (called a purgatory rather than a laxative) - 1 drink at 2 p.m. and one drink at 8 p.m. day before surgery, nothing to drink after midnight, and an enema 1 hour before leaving for hospital.
I have re-discovered the "peri bottle" for cleaning before wiping so area is not too sore.
Hugs,
Suzanne
