Just got hit with the big "H" word right after the "C" word today

I'm kind of in a whirl now because things are moving reeeeeally fast. I guess what I want to know is what exactly they'll do and what all I need to do to brace for impact.

I go back to the GYN tomorrow for an ultrasound to see just what we're dealing with and then back on Nov 11th to have a hysteroscopy and D&C (I have some pretty abnormal bleeding going on), along with some biopsies. Based on the pathology of that, she's going to decide on what kind of hysterectomy to do. Right now, the diagnosis is endometrial hyperplasia that isn't responding to non-surgical treatments and that she is afraid will turn cancerous since it has been going on for awhile. I also have unopposed estrogen since I have PCOS and a history of infertility and dysmenorrhea (that's the nutshell version anyway).

Anyway....so yeah, in the whirl here with no idea what the dance steps are. I've been reading some of the other posts here and have been relatively amazed at how similar some of the cases out there are to mine. I guess I'm in good company, no?

Edited to add: When I texted my husband that I was going to get a hysterectomy for Christmas, he replied that we should go down to the local SPCA's low-cost snorfle/snorfle clinic. He always knows JUST what to say.

Hi SheepladyinWA,

to Hystersisters. I am sorry you are facing this right now, but glad you found this site for sound information and support.

Once your doctor can see inside your uterus, that will give him/her a better idea of what is going on.
Have they said if they suspect fibroids? Are they planning on removing your ovaries also?

After my biopsies, I attained copies for my own records. This helped me to do research on my particular issues. Right now you are kind of in the "hurry up and wait mode", because untill your hysterscopy you don't know what type of hyster your doctor will recommend. I understand that this is an uneasy time frame to be in emotionally, hang in there!

Do lots of research and ask any questions here in the pre-op forum.

Yes, you are in good company here. Your situation sounds much like mine. I had a TAH/BSO due to complex hyperplasia with atypia.

The dance steps are pretty much like you described. Based on what they find in the D&C/Hysteroscopy, a determination will be made about the hyst. After my diagnosis, my GYN referred me to a GYN ONC who said a complete hysterectomy was the only way to go because he was pretty certain cancer was already there but, if it weren't, it would be soon enough.

After surgery I was relieved to hear they didn't find cancer but at my post-op, doc said it was borderline. They got everything out during surgery and nothing had spread anywhere else!

Take this time to read as much as you can being careful that there are a lot of "scary" websites out there that can be very overwhelming. This site is one place where you will find honest answers from women who have actually been where you are.

Best wishes to you on your journey!

I like your husbands sense of humor!

Get your christmas shopping done before the surgery, because depending on what type you will have, you so will not be up to fighting the crowds and being on your feet for long periods of time.

stock up on basic things your house (you know the things that hubby doesn't want to shop for)

For the first 3 1/2 weeks I lived on soup, pudding, ice cream and water...hope this helps!

good luck!

You are in great hands here, try to stay away from others as they will scare the pants off of you. Your hubby sounds very funny and I can tell you from experience a good sense of humor will go a long long way in your healing process. It will be ok in the end it's just the middle that sucks, but soon you will be on the other side. Hang in there dear and pamper the princess! Sending healing thoughts your way ~
