Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

If your hysterectomy was between Nov 09-Nov 15,2009 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads will be moved at approximately 8 weeks post-op to the Date Club forum inside the HysterSisters clubhouse.

  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

TVH> Day two post op. Surgery went well. Doctor said my uterus was very enlarged but did not have to cut me. I am really sore but up and around, home and taking pain meds. Doctor said to take them for at least 4-5 days. Can't take any NSAIDS because I have Crohn's disease. But all it well. DH is driving me absolutely nuts. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes. Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

Had lap hyst on Monday Nov 9th. Was home at noon on Tuesday. I'm getting better little by little. It's good rainy, dreary weather for sleeping and recovering. The pain isn't too bad with the meds (but they make my nose so itchy). My bladder and belly are finally waking up this afternoon. I was having difficulty emptying my bladder. There was a lot of scarring inside - bowel to uterus and bladder, lots of endometriosis, adhesions around my ureter, and from uterus to peritoneum. They ended up doing a cystoscopy after the hyst. because of the bladder work.

Had right ovary removed, actually both. The left one was supposedly taken out on a prior surgery, but he found a small ovary on the left side with 2 endometriomas and lots of adhesions.
He got out all the endo he could find, all the ovaries, uterus, and adhesions. And put some adhesion barrier product in place along the bowel.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

TVH - two days post-op. Surgery went well but had trouble with inability to void post-op..so catheter was re-inserted for over-night so swelling could go down to enable voiding. Got home yesterday afternoon - but last night was rough. Trouble sleeping, night sweats, pelvic pressure, then dry heaves!...not fun with a sore abdomen. Thankfully, DH gave me a cold washcloth which helped tremendously. Rested (no sleep tho) most of today. Insomnia and constipation seem to be my greatest obstacles.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

TVH - Surgery was early Monday morning. Came home by noon on Tuesday. First night, was up nearly every hour to empty my bladder. Didn't have a problem going, but it seemed like if it got the tiniest bit full, I immediately got uncomfortable so a trip to the bathroom was a priority. That continued on through yesterday. Hadn't had a BM as of last night and was getting a belly ache so took some Phillips Milk of Magnesia (small dose). It didn't kick in until tonight. I had taken another small dose this evening and now have a wierd gurgle and have gone a few times. No appetite and not sleeping well yet, but not hurting. Just kind of uncomfortable and running a low grade fever which contributes to the discomfort. Doc called today to say the path report did show additional severe dysplasia in addition to my fibroid (but no cancer, YAY!) so i'm convinced at this point that i made the right decision.

Had surgery yesterday morning and home today. Had a cath in the hospital...Thank goodness. I was in so much pain I could not breathe. They removed the cath. this morning and have been fine on my own since.

Have not had a BM as of yet. After reading everyones posts looks like prune juice might be in order. I have walked around the house quite a bit today, trying to get things moving.

I love this site. I was not really given any what and what nots and this site gave me the insite I need to recover in a good way....Thank You All !

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

I had LAVH on Tuesday afternoon surgery lasted little over 3 hours. I was finally awake enough to get up and walk down the hall at 10 pm Tuesday, soon after the cath. came out . Took several tries to get bladder working, but when it did it seemed like it was never stopping. Had regular breakfast on Wednesday morning. Made several trips down the hall and to the gift shop. Pain was not to bad. Left hospital at 6 pm Wednesday . Feeling pretty good this morning (little sore). Dr. ordered the inflatable leg wraps for 10 days, so those were delivered today. All in all feeling pretty good.

Had TVH and cystoscopy on Tues morning, was up and walking 3 hours later, Foley catheter out that evening, tiny bit of nausea Tues evening, but retained dinner. Wed morning up and at em early, lots of walking, little bit of eating, I'm on mild pain meds (1 percoset every 5 hrs) but amamzed at how good I feel. Mildly annoying swelling in belly area and soreness throughout back and legs from the surgical positioning. Running to pee every hour on the hour LOL No bleeding or spotting at all!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

Had TVH with A and P repairs and urethral sling yesterday. Was walking the halls last night. Had a catheter until this morning. Worst thing is bladder crampiness, have to go about every hour. Taking Percocet and motrin. Came home this afternoon, hanging out in the recliner. I have no appetite. Was dry heaving right after recovery room but one dose of zofran stopped it. Overall I feel pretty good!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 09-Nov 15,2009

Hi everyone,
I had my davinci Supracervical Hyst with removal of tubes (left ovaries and cervix) on Wednesday. I stayed at the hospital one night because I was getting sick from anesthesia and my blood pressure was too low for them to release me.
Came home yesterday afternoon and rested.
Had bad gas pains last night, but took GasX and that seemed to help.
Feeling pretty good today - sore throat from the tube, but nothing bad.
I have five incisions from the surgery - sore when I move - but not as bad as my laproscopic appendectomy last year - that hurt more.
I know not to overdo it - even though I feel well. Plan to rest as much as I can to get better soon.
I hope everyone is recovering well!
