Surgery Postponed

My surgery was scheduled for 11/10/09 and found out that there is a problem with my blood. I need to see a Hematologist. My (PTT) test for BLEEDING was twice the normal range when compared against my (PT) CLOTTING capabilities. They feared if I started to bleed it could be a very bad outcome. I'm thankful for having a GYN that is as cautious as I am. Has anyone experienced this type of delay?

Re: Surgery Postponed

So far no. I go this Saturday for a blood work up and I'm hoping I'm not still severely anemic. I just want to get this surgery over and done with. I'm a bundle of nerves and I'm running out of fingernails to bite.

Re: Surgery Postponed

I was postponed twice due to bladder infection, then put back on schedule right after I called all my family to tell them of the cancellation. It is frustrating for sure! Please just take a deep breath and do the things the Dr tells you to do. Better to take care of a problem before surgery than to have a complication from surgery. Even though I got put back on the schedule the second time. I was already prepared and ready to go, so preparation was one less thing I had to think about.

Hopefully the reason for your delay is easily remedied. Hang in there ane know this site is a good place.

I am sorry your surgery has been canceled but am glad your GYN was cautious! I hope you are able to see a Hematologist soon to see what can be done about this newly discovered condition!

When you get a moment, you can remove your hysterectomy date from your profile. You can add your new one when you re-schedule.

Sending extra s and best wishes your way!

Re: Surgery Postponed

I am scheduled for a total abdominal hysterectomy/BSO this wednesday, and during blood work for a bladder infection that was very tough for me to get rid of, took 4 different antibiotics, the doctor noticed significant bruising. He asked me about it , and I have always bruised really easy, and do have Lupus among other autoimmune diseases, but he did some extra labs and my PTT came back delayed. I have been waiting all weekend for my surgeon to call me back, I am so nervous that my surgery will be postponed, and I am supposed to start a clear liquid diet after midnight, and start the bowel cleansing tomorrow. I have a neurogenic bladder and bowel, so my surgeon wants me to take 2 days to fast and drink the bowel cleanse, to ensure I am empty or as close to it. Anyone have any advice? I can not imagine finding out last minute surgery is cancelled. I have waited 6 months, using Lupron for this surgery, and I do not think I can mentally handle it if it is postponed. I am already a wreck, and with all my medical conditions, I just need to get this over, know that I do not have cancer, and begin my healing process. I would appreciate any input or advice. Thank you very much from a very anxious unstable mom who just needs some peace of mind. Bless you all!
