12 wks post-op Radical LAVH and 2 wks post-op vaginal cuff tear repair

Hi- Im new to this site. I am now 12 wks post op after being dx with cervical cancer and undergoing a Laparoscopic vaginal (daVinci) radical hysterectomy. I felt great during my healing process and followed all of my GYN Oncologists orders. After being cleared at 9 weeks to resume to "normal activity", I began to exercise and get back to my normal routine of life (with 2 very young children). I started to experience severe pain and abd. bloating with slight spotting 1 night 2 wks ago and dismissed it as gas pains. Took 5 or 6 gas-ex and tried to go to sleep. The pain and bloating worsened by the morn and I made an appt to be seen by my GYN oncologist. He did an internal exam and immediately told us "there is deterioration of the vaginal cuff and there is communication with your intestines which will require surgery NOW". We were scared but knew it had to be done and my pain was increasing so I was glad we had an answer. I am now 2 wks post op and have many questions....will this happen again? My doc mentioned "if it happened again, we will do a graft"...I dont want it to possibly happen again. Also from everything Im reading from posts to actual medical journals, this seems to be very rare...my doc said he has never had it happen. I go to see him for my 2 wk post op this wk. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this.

Hi (((Longlifetolive)))

I am glad that you got an answer too! Hopefully from this point forward your recovery will get you back on track and you will be able to resume your normal life. I am sure that you are anxious to do just that with two little ones at home.

Hopefully some of our other sisters will be along to share. If not, I hope that you find the answers that you seek by investigating a bit more. Did you try a search within the HysterSisters site? You can start one in the upper right hand corner of this screen.

All the best to you!

Are you referring to reconstructing the vagina? I only ask because you mention grafting. I'm going for my 2nd vaginal reconstruction tomorrow and mine will be grafted from my thighs. My first reconstruction didn't take because it was done from the abdomen which was in the line of fire during my radiation treatments.

I am not exactly sure what my doc would do IF I needed a graft. He mentioned it during this last emergency surgery so we need to ask him more questions at my f/u. He did mention that if the need arose to do a graft (if this past vaginal cuff repair didnt work) then he would use synthetic material to repair the vaginal cuff. Im assuming that would be a stronger material, lessening the chance of anther vaginal cuff repair.

Ialwaysworry- good luck tomorrow....!
