navel. its a searing hot pain. Ive not overdone it, and have been taking gentle excersise should I worry its quite alarming the pain. It eases when i lie flat but cant do that all day! Ihad surgery last tues19th the pain has been nothing like it is today.

Sounds like what I had. Only mine was by my hip bones. My doc. said it was the internal stitches pulling, also, I noticed more pulling and burning while I had the steri strips on. Is one tighter down below where he pain is?

Re: Advice please-tah severe buring pain 8daypost op

hi thanks for answering feel like im going mad here! I had my staples out on monday, this seemed better, but yesterday and today its sore. I keep feeling my abdomen as though its wet, the heat is radiating from it soo much.. ive read other threads that its ok to massage the area? sounds mad but im scared to even touch it. Im worried ive damaged myself, i know rest is probably the best thing but lying around makes it harder to get up making the pain worse, plus im bored witless!!

Re: Advice please-tah severe buring pain 8daypost op

Hi - I'm four weeks out from a SAH BSO and I had the same sensation 8 days post-op too. It was a searing/burning pain under the left side of my incision (subcutaneous sutures) and lasted about 2 days and then passed. A friend of mine experienced the same thing with her hysto. I found that putting my feet up and resting was the best bet. Yeah, I know it's hard to sit still but sometimes listening to your body's needs - over what your head tells you to do - is really the best medicine. Hang in there - it passes!

What does that mean taking gentle exercise (at 6 days post op)?

Re: Advice please-tah severe buring pain 8daypost op

No massage is not appropriate nor is exercise except for walking in moderation. If this pain worsens or you feel you may have an infection you need to get checked out. You will experience all kinds of pain and sensations for 3 months minimum......if my Doctor hadn't told me that I would have been there every day. Some women use ice packs, I wouldn't because wounds need to be kept dry, but some do...and heat packs which I would never consider ever putting on a new wound. You are right not to touch it, and just air it when you can....it always stings a bit more after the staples first come out.

hi thanks for replying, have you experinced this pain at all? With me it does pass with rest, just my abdomin is very tender and its like a prickly heat sensation under my skin. the pain hasnt worsened and i dont have a temp anti inflammatory meds have helped. just the same type of pain reoccurs everyday. I do appreciate pain is part of the deal - just im scared im doing something to prolong this ordeal my wound did look tiny bit open on monday with slight green, but its all closed up with no redness the pain i feel is well above the incision.

Re: Advice please-tah severe buring pain 8daypost op

I remember feeling that as well but I attributed it to the nerves in the area starting to reconnect. It lasted about a week and then it settled down. Hopefully yours will settled down soon. If it's unbearable then you should call your doctor. Happy Healing!!!
