Ovarian Cancer Advocacy Conference

I just returned from a successful advocacy conference sponsored by Ovar'Coming Together (of Indianapolis) and the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. It was held at the Hyatt in Indianapolis, Indiana. One thing I learned was that a large percentage of the ladies present said they found support groups to be very important. There were also husbands and other caregivers (sisters, mothers, friends) present to learn how they could "spread the word" and be of further support to their loved ones. We also attended a Candlelight Vigil at Monument Circle to remember those we lost to the fight and also for the lives lost in the recent U.S. tragedies. I came away from this conference with many new friends, including one lady who came from London, U.K. We shared a room and have become good friends. I hope to meet her one day in London. Although I am a bit apprehensive of traveling at this time, she said she would be here for the conference as long as she could get a flight to the U.S.
There were medical specialists in attendance, as well as oncology nurses and other medical professionals. We had "breakout" sessions in the afternoon on different topics of interest. I heard that my former Gyn Oncologist, now practicing in South Bend, Indiana, was a last-minute replacement for one of the doctors who could not attend. Unfortunately, I was at another session at the time and missed him. There was news that, contrary to previous information, THERE ARE SYMPTOMS OF OVARIAN CANCER. If you would like more information, please log onto www.ovarian.org or you may contact me and I will try and help you get the information you need. You can also find a Gynecologic Oncologist on that site.

It sounds like the conference was very rewarding...info and friends!! I'm so glad that you went!! This is also wonderful of you to share the info with all of us here. So many times we are not aware of the most recent info unless we know of someone who can direct us on the right path of finding it. Thanks!!
