Surgery Preparation

I have a consultation to talk with my gyno in a couple of weeks about my hyster. I am understanding that there is a 7 week preparation time. What takes 7 weeks to prepare for??

One more thing, not related to surgery, how are you adding the characters to your messages??

Surgery Preparation

I'm not sure what the 7 week pre time is for either. I had to meet with the doctor. See a video he had describing the procedure I was going to have (nothing graphic thank goodness). I had to do a pre-op appointment with the hospital to fill out paperwork and get blood tests and stuff out of the way. But I don't know what the 7 weeks worth is unless you doctor wants you to do something to get healthier or stronger for surgery.
The smilies are shown on the left side of the box where you make your post from. If you don't have a box there showing them, you might have that preference turned off in the area where you signed up to be a member.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Surgery Preparation

Hi there

Not sure why the 7 week wait.....I know my TAH was scheduled about 10 days after I made the decision to do it. Could have been done even a few days earlier, but I had some things to do at work, etc.

Good luck to you !! The waiting REALLY is the worst part !!!

I'm not sure about the 7 weeks time frame either. I only had to wait 6 days for mine. Maybe your doctor meant to say that there's a 7 week's waiting period for elective surgery. It may take that long before he can book the OR.

Actually, my physical preparation took place the day before my surgery. I had to be on a liquid diet the day before, and he ordered a bowel prep (which you should only do on your doctor's orders).

Surgery Preparation

The 7 weeks could be that the DR is booked up in surgery scheduling for that long. I had a appt with my DR on Thurs and he had a cancellation for a surgery the following Monday. We had just came home from 2 weeks in Florida and I could not see any way I could get done everything at home that I wanted to before surgery, so I asked for the next available date. My orig DR visit was 8/7 and the next available date was 9/17. I thought that would be better, but during the 6 weeks of waiting there were several times I wished that I had done it right away. The waiting is really the hardest part.

Hang in there, and good luck on your surgery and recovery

my wait

I don't know why your doc wants you to wait but mine wanted to make sure my blood iron was up ...before he did surgery..
I'm having a TAH in a week from tomorrow and believe me i'm scared to death right now... I've got that dreaded teenage breakout from stress. trying to get all the housework done so i don't go crazy. we have a busy family life here and i know things with get out of hand here.Use your time wisely get things done that you want so it doesn't drive you crazy.. I have two dd's 13 and 16 both are very busy with school, soccer..don't always have time to help mom. but BOY are they in for a SHOCKER when they have no clean clothes...
well back to work i go.. I love coming on here every once in awhile and checking all the new post... HAve a good day!!
