adhesions to bowel

In 2007 (I think), I had a tvt sling and the doc freed some adhesions. But there was one really thick one he said that was attached to my bowel and vaginal cuff. He was afraid to mess with that one, because he said if he nicked the bowel, I would have a colostomy bag.

I have tried to manage it since then. If penetration is too deep, I have abdominal pain and constipation. As soon as I am able to empty my bowels (which can take a couple of days), the pain goes away.

Any ideas? I have since had a heart attack also, and was denied surgery to fix a deviated septum, so I doubt they will clear me for the adhesions, even if I find a doc willing to try.

Re: adhesions to bowel

Ouch! I had a well established adhesion from my bowel to my vaginal cuff that I had removed a couple years ago! I know that can hurt! Mine was removed by a endometriosis and pelvic pain specialist--my own GYN wouldn't touch anything on the bowel for the same reason as yours.

I would suggest checking with either an endo and/or pelvic pain specialist or possibly a colo-rectal surgeon. Even if you are not cleared for surgery, they might have some options you could consider or some alternative surgical procedures that might be easier on your heart. A gastroenterologist might be able to help you cope for now and may even be able to suggest a surgeon.

I would also suggest working closely with your cardiologist to get your heart in the best shape possible. You might ask what options there are heart wise to possible prepare you for a pelvic surgery.

Sending extra s your way!

Re: adhesions to bowel

I guess I probably should have said vaginal penetration, by the way.

Thanks! With any luck, I can get insurance to allow me to see the specialists now.
