on period?

Since I am off the pill prior to TAH my periods are very erratic. It feels like I may be on during my surgery - could this be an issue??

Re: on period?

On period definitely not an issue. When you arrive on surgery day, just tell the nurse you are on a pad when you change. They will give you a pad and some disposable mesh underwear which will be removed after they put you to sleep.

No worries about this one!

Re: on period?

It is best to let your doctor know in advance if you will be on your period, but generally it is not a problem at all! Many of us headed into OR bleeding! One reason some of us have the hysterectomy in the first place is because we don't stop bleeding!

Best wishes to you for your upcoming procedure! I hope all goes well for you!

Re: on period?

For me my period decided to make one last show the morning of surgery!! Wasn't a problem and I went into surgery having cramps from hell and woke up and it was all gone no more bleeding!!

Re: on period?

I was lucky enough to get my period a few days b-4 my surgery. No problem as far as my doc was concerned. Strange to go into surgery with it and to come out w/ out it. You will get some sexy mesh undies supplied by the hospital! Just remember, stay away from ibuprofen products as they thin your blood which is not ggod b-4 surgery. Call your doc for his/her advice on that. They can perscribe something else for you in the meantime Keep us posted!

Re: on period?

I went in to the hospital with my period, too. No problem at all....and now....no more tampons!
And the mesh panties....what a glorious sight they are! My sister in law, jokester that she is, put the extras from my hosptial bathroom in my overnight bag to bring home. She said that she thought I might want to add them to my pretty Victoria's Secret panties that I plan to purchase at the after Christmas sales

At least they had a pretty green stripe on them

I was in the same boat had period 6 day before my hysto and went into theatre bleeding...... I did feel embarrassed but when she gave me the gown to put on I told her again and she said no problems lots of women like you bleed when they come in...... she gave me 2 pads and some "bicycle"type undies to wear....... I am just glad I was out to it as i had a huge gush when I went to the loo before getting dressed for theatre.

Good luck you will be fine ~HUGs~
