Surgery Monday - now a UTI!

Everything was falling in order for Monday when out of the blue I got a call from my personal physician stating I had a mild UTI and would need to go on Cipro for 3 days. I started stressing. I am having a total hysterectomy (I have a pelvic fibroid tumor) and it has been quite uncomfortable this past week. I called the hospital and spoke to the very nice lady who gave me instructions this morning. She told me to take the Cipro and she would make a note on my chart but the more I get into my system the better. She stated that I would be meeting with the surgeon and anesthesiologist Monday before surgery and would be able to ask any questions. I have been soooo careful not having anyone visit or trying not to be around anyone with a cold. I feel relieved after speaking to the hospital because I don't think my doctor really knew what to tell me.

One more thing before I go...this website has been so helpful to me. I swore that I would not research anything beforehand as I was too nervous about what information I might find but this site has been a blessing. I am packing my hospital bag tomorrow (thanks to all for the list of needed items) and have pretty much completed my list of things to buy for my recovery at home. My sister (who lives downstairs) will be home the first two weeks to help me out and is always there for me after work as well.

Thank you all again!

Re: Surgery Monday - now a UTI!

Chigurl,

It sounds to me like you have the jitters and the UTI put you over the edge. Imagine for a minute that it was someone on here and what you would say. Without the emotions, you can see that it will fine.

It's actually a good thing to take the Cipro. I got a UTI from the catheter. You will have extra protection.

Take a deep breath and relax.

Surgery Monday - now a UTI!

Thanks for the response, Cynthia. I did get over the momentary stress and am going with the flow. I just keep in my mind that surgery is Monday and things will get better afterwards. These past four months have been trying but I am staying positive.
