I am still lost

in this group... there are so many places to read and I guess I have not figured out the whole thing so I keep coming back here to post and ask questions... lol...
anyhoo, I have spent a lot of time on here reading in the last 2 days, or however long it has been since I joined and I am so thrilled to have found you all... I ordered the free book and I am going to share this link with all women I know who are going thru all this...Ya are all just amazing...
Now, as I was reading and making a list of things I want to remember for this pre-op time... I was thinking of a few things I have not seen added to the group of pre-op suggestions.... One of those things are, as I drug one foot across the other while barefooted, was remember to clip your toe nails before surgery... I can only imagine how long they will get and how hard it would be to reach them for a while after wards... and I am thinking that a hair cut or trim too before hand... we wont feel like getting out and having it done and it will help us feel better when we do feel like getting up and getting dressed and presentable, as I saw someone mention to get dressed every day and put on your face, even if it is just pj's and face cream...
I don't even have a date yet for my surgery, am having the lap next week to find out for sure what all is going on in there but I can't not be thinking about the recovery at home... Another fear is not being able to sit at the computer so I have a plan devised to move my monitor and get me sturdy bed table so I can sit in the recliner, have my feet up and still get online some... The bad thing with that is my eyesight may not allow me to read hehe..Last summer we bought a set of 4 tv trays that I will actually finally put to use and make a new "computer desk(s)"... Have one for the monitor and other needs and others around me for whatevers...
I will more than likely be home alone... Can't afford for both of us to be off work and one daughter works, one lives 2 hours away and son is in school... So I am trying to think of everything I can to do before hand to be better prepared... Cooking is one of those things.. I am not much of a cook but I am gonna have to dig out the recipe books and get busy in the kitchen... lol...
Ok, that's about all I can think of at the moment... Need to get dressed and go to Wal Mart for creamer, and check our roads as we got snow and ice and I need to know what to expect for the drive to work tomorrow...
Hope all is well and ya have a great day...
Jaggie

Re: I am still lost

Hi Jagster66, Good luck with everything you are doing. My LSH was this past Thursday. I found great advice on this site in the pre-op section. There are some checkpoints that are helpful. Also helpful is this list of what to bring to the hospital. One thing I had happen which was totally unexpected was - the afternoon before my surgery I had a bad time with the meds I got for bowel-prep. By the next morning I had a migraine and was throwing up - not very pleasant. Problem is, I had not packed my overnight bag and was not ready to go to the hospital at all. So, I think you are wise to plan ahead. Sometimes you think you have the time and don't. Also, prioritizing helps. I've got 2 small kids and at some point I realized all their clothes would never be clean, all their homework would not get done, and they wouldn't eat what I made ahead anyway. We have phone and we have a pizza menu!

Re: I am still lost

lol beads.... yeah phone and pizza... good combo... thankfully it is just my husband and i so he will help with meals..
i talked to my boss yesterday though and while i don't have to worry about my job, i DO have to worry about paying the families part of the medical insurance while i am off... but i am not gonna stress over it until after friday.... see what the laparscopy shows and then IF i need surgery sooner than later i will worry then.... if it is not urgent then i will have to plan for it and save up some more money...

Re: I am still lost

I'm with you on the cost issue. I was so glad the hospital was willing to work with me - they let me pay 1/2 up front and a payment plan for the rest. You may want to contact yours just to know what they are willing to do so you know ahead of time.

Re: I am still lost

I packed a bag two days before my surgery. I took stuff to do(thankfully I was there the surgery day and got to go home the next night) because I didn't know how long I was going to have to be there.
Make sure you have your slippers and a house coat, and if you have long hair your hair ties.
