Need Help with Enema please!!

I am supposed to do two enema's today, one I just tried 15 minutes ago. I do not understand how you are supposed to wait 15 minutes to an hour? I cannot seem to tolerate it for even one minute? Is there a trick to this? I have no idea what to do since I basically just wasted the one I just tried because I couldn't wait, the urge is so strong and very uncomfortable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Need Help with Enema please!!

What kind of enema are you using? I had to do 2 enemas the night before my surgery. I bought the Fleet brand. The instructions said to retain the liquid for 3 to 5 minutes. That was hard, so I can't image waiting an hour. The instrucation also said to relax, yeah right!

I had never done this before so I researched the internet for the most "comfortable" way to do this. I took a pillow and a towel in the bathroom and laid on the floor by the toilet. Laying on your left side makes it easier because that is where your bowels and colon are located. I also took a watch, so I could time how long to wait.

My doctor warned me about all the complications that can happen if I didn't follow the instruction to the T. There was no way I wanted any of that stuff going on along with a hyster.

Now that it's all over, it wasn't as bad as my imagination made it out to be. My surgery went very well and I have recovered nicely. I am so glad I had this done. Life is so much better.

Prayers for a smooth surgery and recovery,
B

Re: Need Help with Enema please!!

It is fleet brand enema. Instructions say that it works within 15 minutes up to an hour. But I cannot seem to last even a minute. I will try to lay on my side. Thanks for at least responding.....

Re: Need Help with Enema please!!

I just put a big towel on my bed and laid on my left side. I had to give it to myself, which was the worse part of it. I bought the Walgreen's brand because I could not find the Fleet brand. Pharmacist said it was the exact same thing and it was cheaper.

I probably held it between 3 to 5 minutes, as long as I could hold it. I don't remember it taking very long for it to start working though. But it kept working for me for a while. I only had to do one enema though.

Good luck with your prep and good luck with your surgery.
