Tips for the first trip to grocery store alone

Just a note of warning to those of you who felt like I did last week. I was SOOO looking forward to my first trip to the grocery store by myself (I have DEFINITELY been inside too much!). I was cleared to drive after four weeks and went to the grocery store the next day. I only had a small list but found more things that I needed along the way. Half way through the store I found out that was NOT a good idea. I was getting dizzy and exhausted. The cart seemed twice as heavy as it really was. I picked up the last of the "necessities" and walked slowly to the check out. Luckily, I was thinking enough to ask them to put the perishables in one bag. They also loaded all of the groceries in the car for me. I drove home (20 minute drive) and brought in only the perishable bag, leaving the rest for the kids and DH when they got home. I put the whole bag in the fridge and went to bed for the rest of the afternoon!

Another lesson in taking it SLOW when we start to do more.

HAPPY HEALING TO ALL!!!

Tips for the first trip to grocery store alone

Hi Jeanu!

Glad to know that when you saw you had made a mistake you did the best you could to not complicate things further. A lot of ladies would have dragged all the groceries in and really been in trouble.

Good catch!

BEST OF LUCK!!!

Tips for the first trip to grocery store alone

Don't be shy about using the little drivable carts if your store has them. Pushing a cart is hard work! Our own KimM tried one after a surgery. Watch you don't run into people, thoughl

Just a thought. Of course you still need to keep your own doctor's restrictions in mind on bending and lifting. Some (like mine) specifically forbid grocery shopping for a while.

I'm glad you kept your sense of humor.

Tips for the first trip to grocery store alone

Hi Jeanu,
My friend brought me to the grocery store, and yes I did use one of those nifty motorized wheelchairs. I got a few stares but I didn't care because I didn't feel much worse than when I left to go to the store. Take care of yourself and take it easy. Love to all
