Military veterans & disability

Anybody out there a military veteran that receives disability for their hysto, or had any experience with what's needed to file for VA disability on that? I think I have what I need, but just wanted to talk to someone with some experience with the process.

Re: Military veterans & disability

Hi VApatient! I cannot answer your question on the VA disability. My only recommendation would be you give a call to the VA phone number you are sending the paper work to. I know that can be a pain. I'm sure you're good to go with what you have -- you sound confident enough with it. I am a dependent of a retired military spouse, so I go thru a different paper trail. Let us know how it goes!
Hugs, love and healing!

Re: Military veterans & disability

OMG!!! I'm totally headed to the VA office here in town to speak to them about the issues I COMPLAINED about repeatedly while IN the Marine Corps and which no one ever did more than hand me **** Motrin and iron pills for. THANK YOU NAVY MEDICINE! Those same issues have landed me here today at Hystersisters missing gear. God issued me one uterus and two ovaries. LOL! I'm now without that uterus and one of those uteruses (uteri?). I have to go over there anyway for my sciatica so why not bring up the hysterectomy as well?

Let me know what happens for you and I'll be back to follow up as soon as I can figure it out as well.

Re: Military veterans & disability

I've heard that a hysto = 50% disability, but not sure if that's always the case, or any other details on it.

I believe one of the last paps that I had in the Navy was abnormal, but the results are not in my file. I do have other things from the last couple of exams with cervicitis and a friable cervix. I've read that both of those can be from HPV, but I wasn't tested back then. These also can lead to cervical cancer, which is what I was avoiding by having the hysto (after many more abnormal paps and biopsies).

I have a couple more copies of my medical record that I'm going to go through to see if I do have the results somewhere that said abnormal to make sure, but I think what I have may count as far as what I need to prove that it started while I was still active duty, which then qualifies me for the compensation now. My understanding is that if it's in the medical record from active service, then you get the comp for it once you are out.

What I'm also wondering though is how it will be handled with my current disability rating. I'm at 20% now, 10% for my back and 10% for my knee. I wonder if they'll add the 50% to the 20%, or somehow make it inclusive or something. I'm sure if they can find a way to pay out less, they will! I guess time will tell... because I do know that it takes forever to get a response. I hope to get my paperwork sent in this week!
