Re: Acrylic Nails??

No but I did anyway. Gives my nails a chance to be themselves and besides, who's gonna see me for the next 6 weeks ? LOL

I'd probably call your dr and ask as they like no polish so I would assume no acrylics so they can see the color of the nail bed ?

Re: Acrylic Nails??

I had to remove mine prior to my surgery. Having worked in a hospital and being a patitent many times, I know that the acrylic can block the oxygen sensor that they use on your fingertip to monitor you during surgery. It is a major thing and one that they will not likey back down on. In some cases they will use a toe, but it much more difficult as the anesthesiologist cannot readily see your toes (to chech for nail bed color/cyanosis) from his position at your head in the OR. Hope that this helps!

Re: Acrylic Nails??

I asked the nurse at my pre-op and she said they wouldn't be a problem, if they had to they could use my toe or earlobe for the oxygen sensor. Be sure and ask your Dr. just to be safe.

Re: Acrylic Nails??

That's a good question to ask your doctor/hospital. Some members are allowed to keep their nails/polish and others aren't. I wasn't allowed artificial nails or nail polish (including clear) on fingers or toes. Just my hospital's policy.
