Finally starting to feel like myself!

It's been 4 weeks and 3 days since my TAHBSO. Spent 2 nights in the hospital, and once I knocked out the nausea (yes I did throw up on day 2 -- owwww), I felt improvements every day until Day 10. I got up and walked on day 2 in the hospital, and continued walking once I got home, first around my yard and then down the block. Can do multiple blocks now. Day 10, though, I slid a little backward, figured maybe I had overdone the walking the day beforoe (got out of the house for the first time). So I took it really easy and continued to take it really easy for the next 3 weeks (I have 6 weeks off from work, and help from DH and DS at home)because I continued to feel about the same -- easily tired and burning, sore belly with twinges of pain. Then, just yesterday, I realized that I feel better! Halleluiah!! Have done a little bit more, with no negative consequences. Paying attention to my body, and stop when it tells me to stop. Have actually done a little housecleaning! The doctor told me I'd "hit the wall" after about 2 weeks and then be about the same for awhile, and she seems to have been right.

Just thought I'd report my timeline, because I've found other sisters' stories really helpful. Again, we are all different: were in different shapes to begin with, at different ages, had different procedures, and have different household situations (not to mention just plain differences between people). But it's helped me to hear how others are faring.

(By the way, I've been on Premarin since a week after surgery, and have had no side effects from that, either. Is it too soon, or am I going to be one of the lucky ones? Just curious)

me too!

Hi Angel... I will be four weeks on Monday, and everyday I seem to feel a bit better. I feel very lucky, from what I've read on other posts. I'm still a bit sore to the touch, and peeing still isn't the same, but feeling pretty darn good considering! Now, after 4 weeks away from work I'm reallllly beginning to like it! If I could win a lottery or something I have no doubt I wouldn't work anymore.... fat chance, huh? I love being home, I love my solitude, and being able to get a few of those nagging little things done that I never have time for otherwise. I have started walking more & more and faster & faster! And it gets easier everyday. I used to be quite a walker - about 6 years ago... then I met a new guy (now my husband) and I quit and gained about 40 pounds.... this surgery has given me new incentive to get back into the swing of things. I feel good about that too. I lost 4 lbs during/after surgery according to my 2 week checkup, and hope to have lost some more by the next at 6 weeks. (I don't own a scale...)

Doc put me on Cenestin at two weeks. It's one of the bio-identical estrogens made from soybeans and yams. It seems to be doing very well for me. A slight awareness of side effects, but not anything but a minor bother.

Nice to meet you, and hope you continue on mending well! Take care.

Friends, Sanna

Good to hear

I am so glad to read a post of someone on the uphill trail, I just hit the end of week three post op and thought I was going to lose my mind (didn't think this week should have been this hard)- I guess "I'd hit the wall" as I have read in other post too. My DR wasn't really informative about all the issues that come after this but thanks to this site I realize alot of what is happening to me has happened to alot of us. I feel a little more like myself today and am hoping that there are no more backward days-mine was at around day 16(for others interested).

Here's wishing you all continued uphill travels on the road to recovery. Thanks for sharing your story

Finally starting to feel like myself!

Was put on premrin .9mg day after surgery and have been on it for two weeks now and I seem fine. I was wondering the same thing am I just luckey. Everyone I have spoken to has changed their hrt at least once. Dr. did say it takes time to get it right but you have to give it a chance. Oh, for me as well so far so good.

Hitting the wall??

Ladies, sorry to ask such a silly question, but .. I don't understand what you all mean when you say "hitting the wall" with reference to your recovery???

Thanks ..

that nasty wall

JudiL,

It is not a silly question at all. The wall is that horrible time when you think you are on the road to recovery and you are doing so great and all of a sudden your recovery comes to a smashing halt and you start to feel worse instead of better.

I think that if you take care of yourself and listen to your body, your chances of hitting the wall are slim. Do not overdue or the pillow police will be after you!!

I am post 9 weeks and 4 days and I had no problem with the "wall", thank goodness!

I feel terrific and I am totally back to doing all my normal stuff...school, football practice, work,etc......!!

I still have tummy twinges and I get tired easily but my energy level is better than it has been and it gets better everyday.

Good luck to you!

Love from MO

Finally starting to feel like myself!

Angelpup - Glad to hear you're feeling good. I haven't had any problems with premarin either. Continue to REST when you can...it's still possible to overdo it even several months down the road...however, it sounds like you're listening to your body..which is very important.

Jane - I had back pain too...not a lot but it was there. I put a pillow underneath my knees to re-adjust my propped and laying position. I also used heating pad on my back (don't fall asleep) with it on...this helped. If it continues to wake you up...call your dr.
