Hot flashes, not sleeping. When do I call the doctor?

I am 12 days post and had my first hot flash yesterday morning and my first crying spell this morning. I am not sleeping all night and am usually awake at 2 am and again at 4. Both of these episodes happened at 4 am... I am really hoping that it does not become a habit cause I am not a morning person, ESP 4 am... lol... I have noticed pain in my groin and am wondering if it is simply due to walking more, am still needing pain meds although I now can get to every 6 hours instead of 4. appetite if poor and am thinking it is due to the darvocet. Haven't had the chest pain as ya described but I am wondering... how bad does it need to be before we call the doctor? I mean, has anyone ever died from a hotflash??? reading those other two posts have me a bit scared... My doctor has said no hormones for 4 to 6 months to make sure all the endomtriosis has died out and I am really dreading this, after reading here... its a little late but non the less...

Re: Hot flashes, not sleeping. When do I call the doctor?

Really if you are worried, call the Dr and at least talk to the nurse. For pain call if you're not sure. And you can't die from a hot flash but they can be pretty dramatic. Waking with them at night is pretty common. Its not much fun but check on the sections on the site with that info and that might help. I've been down the whole menopause road and I sympathize. But I say don't hesitate to call the dr with all this, they've heard it before and expect it. Good luck.

Re: Hot flashes, not sleeping. When do I call the doctor?

I agree that there's nothing wrong with calling your dr. if you have questions. I had pretty bad insomnia and no appetite for a few weeks after my surgery. I attributed it to being so sedentary and also the pain meds. I think you'll find that the sleep part gets better but the hot flashes may not. I know they're miserable but I don't think there's any danger of dying from them, especially if you're generally healthy. I found that once I was off of the pain meds, I could get a good night's sleep by taking a benadryl. Hang in there. I does get better.

Re: Hot flashes, not sleeping. When do I call the doctor?

I've just been reading posts with your doctors telling you not to take hormones to make sure the endo has died out. My doctor is planning on putting me on the hormone patch during surgery even though I have endo. I'm a little surprised,he knows I have endo and never mentioned anything about that. I will talk to my Dr about it.
