urodynamic testing

Urodynamic testing???

I am scheduled to me with a urologist on Wednesday to "see" what type of "bladder" issues i have.

Has anyone had this "test"?? What can i expect? I read a little on it, and it mentioned about placing "electrodes in the rectum"!!!!!! WHAT!??

Before you all ask...my GYN wants me to see the urologist to see if i am a candidate for that "mesh sling". Which i am not to crazy about.

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

Hi Daisyforest,
I had that test done I think. I have to have a bladder repair done with the hyst and that was one of the test they did. I also have forgotten the name of it. Your hooked up with a bunch of stuff down there ( I didn't really look or pay attention just worked on breathing and relaxing) It was fine really some pinching and burning pain when they did catheter type stuff but to be expected. Oh it was cold though they prep you and then I spent the rest of the test shivering and shaking ugh.

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

None of those i like! lol

The reason i am going to the Urologist is that my GYN said "i am very good at some things and he is very good at other things".

Which is fine by me. My GYN is a specialist and the urologist is a specialist too. Guess my parts will be in good hands.

Isn't your surgery tomorrow irish4??

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

Yes my surgery is Monday. Just working on staying relaxed getting last minute stuff done. The test isn't that bad really lol. I remembered something else too, you have to stand up at one point, yep hooked up with all those wires. Quite interesting but I'm sure there are worse test out there. I hope everything goes well for you.

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

I had one done in January and it was fine. No pain, no pinching, no burning, although I was cold. I had to pee when I went in and they took me straight back and I had to pee into a little toilet. Then they went on to the small cath and filling up my bladder. They asked me to tell them when I could hold it no more and then had me cough.

I had a sling with my surgery and I am so glad I had it! I can sneeze and cough without peeing!!

Good luck!

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

I am so looking forward to sneezing and coughing. AND having one of my boys jump around the corner to scare me and ME NOT SLAPPING THEM AND TELLING THEM "thanks for making me pee my pants"! LOL

Not to mention...i will be able to JUMP on a trampoline!!

Guess i just need to "change" my way of thinking. A little bit of embarrassment during the test, some pain from the surgery, and soon it will be all worth it.

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

I had the urodynamics testing before my surgery. It was a little awkward but really not painful. i had bladder prolapse but no incontinence. She wanted to make sure that she fixed everything while she was doing my surgery. I ended up with the mesh sling which i also was wary of but it seems to be the latest and most fail proof method of fixing the bladder. Also had a TVTO which stabilizes the urethra so you don't leak when your older...ha! So I had the works..TVH/bladder sling/TVTO/ A&P repairs...no mesh on the posterior repair. I am 5 days post op and am thrilled with my recovery so far. I did not have to come home with a catheter and pain has been very manageable with percocet and motrin. I went to church today in my regular clothes and feel great. I do tire more easily but i thought i'd be in the bed for weeks...not the case at all...maybe easier as i do not have any abdominal incisions. Best of luck to you....you'll do fine...try not to worry!

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

I had it too and was more worried about it than I needed to be. The nurses that did mine do it all day everyday and worked very hard to make me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in until the moment I left. Make sure you ask for numbing gel before they do the catheter because even though its really small its a little uncomfortable. They just want to make sure your bladder hasn't prolapsed because its much easier for the doc to fix it when you have your hysterctomy than for you to have to do that at a later point. Good Luck and try to relax ( I know its hard).

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

I had some testing, but not urodynamic testing. I had 3rd degree bladder prolapse, so my doctors didn't do a lot of additional testing. The bladder sling has been wonderful. I was more scared about that than the hysterectomy, but everything went fine.

Re: I am about to pee my pants!!

Hi everyone
Glad to hear some positive notes about the TOT. I am 3 weeks post TOT and am having a terrible time urinating. I constantly feel like I need to go and that my bladder does not empty fully. I am frightened that I will have to have a catheter fitted which would feel like a backwards step after not having one for the last 3 weeks. I am in so much discomfort and feeling like I wished I had never had the TOT done in the first place.
