Think Im losing it!!!

Hi Ladies

I have been on Estrace 1mg for two years now, I have felt pretty good most of the time, but for the last month I have been experiencing crushing anxiety, extreme fatigue, mental fog......I feel dead......not the person I used to be at all. My dr told me if I didnt feel right to adjust my meds as required. Im thinking of increasing my estrace to 2 mg, should I take all 2 mg in the morning or split it up 1 mg in am and 1 mg in pm...I havent slept well in weeks....im exhausted and just want my life back!!!
any advice would be appreciated. Thank You all!!!

Re: Think Im losing it!!!

I would split the dose as it will send you way up and then crash 12 hours later. If you split the dose you will get a more consistent level. Also, if you find this increase isn't helping or perhaps you feel worse, you may want to consider adding a little testosterone. The symptoms you describe are how I feel when I don't use my testosterone cream for a while. I use a very little bit a couple times a week to maintain right now. Maybe you could have your doctor check your levels.

Re: Think Im losing it!!!

You need a prescription for compounded testosterone cream. Usually you start with a tiny dose, and it can take a few months to notice an improvement in symptoms.

I'd increase the estrogen if your dr recommends it first. Wait for that to stabilize (a couple of months) before adding anything else.

Your doctor needs to prescribe it. You should have your testosterone and free testosterone levels tested before you supplement with it to be sure that your body is indeed low in that hormone.

Re: Think Im losing it!!!

If you've been feeling pretty good most of the time and now things have recently changed, I'd wonder what caused that change. Have you been ill, exercising more, dieting, or have you had a change in other medications? Has your doctor checked your thyroid levels recently? Imbalances there can mimic symptoms of menopause.

I think you should check with your doctor before changing anything.

Re: Think Im losing it!!!

Losing our ovaries does a number on us in many ways...anxiety is a biggie.

I know its horrible. We know what it is...but when its unrelenting we just feel trapped.

I know for me I have a sensitivity to estrogen going down...estrogen drops cause serotonin to drop in the brain and that can cause all sorts of symptoms including anxiety.

Its important to try to keep them as level as possible.
Exercise, diet, stress, antibiotics can lower them
I didn't know that about exercise. I was exercising 5 hours a week for 10 weeks and that and a mistake in my dosing of estrogen made me drop 50% in levels in 3 months...by the 3rd month I felt very, very bad. It taught me that I have to stay on top of it for sure.

I hope you can get some help with this.

Normal TSH range is 0.4 - 4.0. Ask your Dr to retest you in 2 weeks. If you have a lump in your throat, Dr may order a sonogram to check for goiter.
I say all this as a Graves Disease survivor. Graves is Hyperthyroidism with a twist. Your levels fluctuate and it's hard to get them stabilized. When my levels were high (under .4) I was anxious, couldn't sleep, was very hot, had palpitations, easily angered and was ravenously hungry.
When my levels were low (over 4.0) I was lethargic, no appetite, weepy and whiney, and had constipation a lot. I seemed depressed.

I had radioactive iodine treatments (RAI) to kill my thyroid, and now I take synthroid every day, forever. I've noticed that since my TAH on Feb 5, I may need to have my synthroid dosage adjusted. But I'm not going to have that bloodwork done until I'm sure my body is fully adjusted from the surgery and loss of ovaries, etc. I'm going to give the HRT (Enjuvia) a little more time. I know my levels were fine before surgery, so any change would be a direct effect of the HRT level, I think.

Anyway - the reason I'm waiting is this: You get your level checked and the Dr prescribes the dosage. It takes about 3 weeks for your body to fully adjust to the new dosage. So if your level isn't stable to begin with, you will not feel better because the dose is wrong.

I sure hope some of this is helpful to you,
Good luck, and (BIG HUG).

Re: Think Im losing it!!!

Thanks KalliKat

I think you might be right......a couple weeks ago i couldnt sit still, wanted to eat every pastry in sight, heart pounding.....then last week.......NO energy, EXTREME anxiety, cant eat, cant sleep, feel like there is something caught in my throat, I can actually see an adams apple in my neck. Im not sure I will even be able to work and I dont see my Dr until Thrsday!!!!! My insides are shakey if that makes any sense.
My DR keeps telling me im depressed.....and I know that Im NOT depressed. Have tired every antidepressant on the plant and nothing changed.
Was considering going to emerg today to have it looked at but dont want to look like a hysterical hypocondriac...but I know that there is something wrong. am I crazy.
I tried upping my estrace dosage a bit and find that I got a few more hours sleep last night....but still feel AWFUL!!!

Not sure what to do next??
