On the home stretch....

After having to wait for several months for surgery, my date is just about here...only one week and a half to go! I cleaned my place yesterday and went and got a few items that I may need post-op...started a little corner of which I have been accumulating things I will need to take with me to the hospital. So all I now need to do is pack and do one final load of laundry. I wanna try and be as calm and relaxed this last week. I am still really nervous and scared but at the same time I just want this to be done with and start the recovery process of this journey. I have had way to much time to think and worry about this all.

It sounds like you're almost there! Don't forget to take some time just for yourself and of course, we're always here for you! Best wishes for your upcoming surgery! I hope you have a good week and a successful surgery!

Re: On the home stretch....

Hope, I had about a month to plan for the surgery and that was so hard. Yes, it was nice that I was able to get the house ready and my stuff prepared for afterwards but emotionally it was just horrible. I was a wreck, crying, angry, sad, just awful.

But you know, once I had my surgery all of that has gone away. I'm just focused now on staying positive to recover well. One thing I highly recommend is try to take sometime out for yourself before surgery to just go have fun. I did that the weekend before my surgery. I went out for dinner, movies, a bit of shopping (non-surgery related) and that at least helped me a bit.

I wish you the best and look forward to seeing you on the post-op side

Re: On the home stretch....

My surgery is on Monday. Prep day tomorrow. (ugh) Treated myself to a meal out today, and had my hair appointment. I actually visited the hospital on Friday.. got a little tour of the facilities, and filled in as to what I can expect on Monday morning. Even got one of my pre op tests taken care of ("type and screen"). The place where I'll be recovering is set up.. I've got myself pretty much organized for prep day tomorrow (make sure I have the clear fluids I'm allowed, the meds I'm supposed to take, plenty of reading material for when I'm ... ahem.. indisposed...). I have the hospital bag set aside, with things in it. There's still debate as to whether I'm staying overnight or not. Dr says 80-90% are released same day. But I know that if any Dr has a reservation about how I'm doing, I'll be staying.
Am I still fretting? Yeah.. I am. Que sera sera...

Re: On the home stretch....

I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all for your ongoing support these past couple of months!! I don't know what I would have done without all of your support and words of encouragement. All OB GYN offices should have this site available and give it to all their patients. I am just glad that I stumbled across this site on my own.

Re: On the home stretch....

I'm having either a TLH or an LAVH... not *exactly* sure... "advanced laparoscopic" procedure... "retroperitoneal approach". I think the last step in the procedure is that the uterus comes out through the "va-jay-jay" (to quote character Dr Bailey on ABC TV show. ;-) ). But all the inside work is done laparoscopically.........
