Surgical Menopause or not?

I know this may not be the right place to post this but it seems like a good place to me.

I have a question for you ladies, how was the experience of going through surgical menopause and do the HRT's work?

My doctor wants to take my ovaries with my hysterectomy because of my significant family history of breast and ovarian cancer. My right ovary would have to go either way because its a little problem child, but the thought of being on hormone therapy at 30 doesn't seem so fun. My poor husband has been through hell and back with me the last few years from my hormones being so out of balance that I fear he'd give up if I am more of a wreck after surgery. I want to make the right choice and protecting myself against inevitable cancer seems right, but I'm so afraid my emotional state will get much much worse.

Can I get some opinions? Thanks!

Re: Surgical Menopause or not?

I had my ovaries out because my mom died of ovarian cancer so I don't regret it. I have used the vivelle dot patch for 7 years and have had no problem.
I think it is probably easier to take hrt and get balance without the ovaries. If you keep the ovaries they will fail or start decling at some point, and when you need the hrt for symptoms, it seems like balance is more difficult because the ovaries go up and down with fluctuations as they dwindle. I had problems with taking hrt when I had my ovaries before my surgery , as I was starting to go through menopause with the highs and lows of hormones and ovary issues.
