1st day back at work

Ugh.... I lost energy (just from sitting at my desk) soon after noon, then I started getting crazy. First I got all weird about my belly button incision - whether it was "ok". Luckily, I work at a school so the school nurse could look and then reassure me. Then I started worrying about the fact that I haven't gotten a written note from my onc stating that the lymph nodes were clean (which I requested last Thursday and Friday). Its amazing how insane I can get (especially for a school counselor). Wondering.. Did she really tell me that?, did she read the right report?, did I dream this?, why hasn't she called me back? Crazy. Now its finally time to go home. I'm just going to crash on the couch. This was harder than I expected but I can't do half days because the policy is that when you have to borrow from the sick bank its all or nothing (work all day or don't work at all). And its amazing how my physically fatigue turned into mental anxiety and craziness so quickly.
Tomorrow will be a better day.
Thanks for listening.
Jenn

Re: 1st day back at work

I can relate to the hard time coming back from the 2nd surgery. I wish I could have stayed home longer. I don't think just hearing once that something came back clean is enough to flush out the doubt and worries that build up, I feel like it takes more time to adjust to the news being good. I know some people find it easier for the good news to "sink in". 2 surgeries close together take a lot out of you, as does the stress and worry of a cancer diagnosis. Takes awhile to get your feet on the ground again. I'm still working on it, and you'll start to get there, too. Rest when you can. And that same incision is bothering me, too, its a bad location for me.

Jenneil:
The thing I did (don't know if its possible for you) was work and then immediately go home and take a nap. I did this for several weeks . As a matter of fact, I still take about an hour nap after I get home. Otherwise I crash way too early and then don't sleep thru the night.
You will find ways to adjust to the "new normal" that work for you.
Hang in there.
