Doxil for recurrence

Hi Everyone,
it's been awhile since I've posted. I finished my second round of carbo/taxol in October and have been footloose up until recently, I'm back on treatment for my second recurrence. We've used up the Carbo/Taxol effect - so now I am on Doxil.
Has anyone had experience with Doxil? I know it's a cousin to the Red Devil...so far no sores on my hands or feet, I'm 7 days out from treatment. They are kind of tingly though, and feel "hot" and itchy. I hope something isn't coming on there.
Any info is appreciated...thanks.

(((Pokadot)))

I'm sorry I don't have any chemo information for you (I'm sure someone will be along soon!), but I wanted to send some big hugs and positive thoughts your way!

Re: Doxil for recurrence

Hi Pokadot!
I had four treatments of Doxil. Honestly, it was a very easy chemo for me. My only side effects were some skin issues (the skin gets very sensitive to things that 'rub' such as bras, tight jeans, etc. Also, my feet swelled up, because I insisted on walking after treatments (try to stay off of your feet for a few days after the doxil is administered).

I also brought baggies of ice during my infusion, which I would put in my palms and on the bottom of my feet - that was recommended to shrink the capillaries, to prevent the "hand-foot" syndrome that can occur with Doxil.

Your hot and itchy issues are probably related to the skin and rubbing side effects. I used Udder Cream, which really seemed to help in the areas where my skin was being affected.

Good luck with the Doxil!

Re: Doxil for recurrence

THANK YOU everyone, especially Wolfgang. Didn't know that about staying off my feet, or about the cold packs. Good information and exactly what I was looking for!
Why only 4 of Doxil, was it not effective? Just wondering, you don't have to share if you don't want to. Enjoying your break from chemo?
Thanks again.

Re: Doxil for recurrence

Hi Pokadot, I just want to send some very gentle s your way. May doxil begin working soonest and vanish all nasties while any side-effects remain very minimal. Keeping you in prayer and sending many positive thoughts too.

Re: Doxil for recurrence

My doctor recommended four treatments. Then I had a scan, which showed that the Doxil did not work for me. That was no surprise, since there seemed to be NO chemo that worked for me! I seriously think my cancer is immune to toxic chemicals! I do know of women who have had good results with Doxil.

After that chemo, I had another debulking surgery and entered a clinical trial. Things have been on the upswing for me (knock on wood) since then.

Good luck to you Pokadot! Ask anything you want - and I'll try to remember

Re: Doxil for recurrence

So sorry to hear of you're dealing with more issues. I wish you the very best through Doxil and that this will be your last cancer issue!

If you don't mind my asking, were you forced into menopause at 31 and if so, how did you handle it? I have uterine cancer and am 32 and will be forced into menopause once I start radiation. I am not allowed any HRT, so I'm trying to find out what worked for others.
Thank you!

Re: Doxil for recurrence

Hi Anna
Yes I was put into "surgical menopause" at 31. The hotflashes weren't fun, but they were manageable. I wasn't allowed to have HRT either because of breast cancer risk, but they did allow Progesterone - but not sure if they will allow that for you. That is the same as the Depro Provera shot for birth control. For some reason that wasn't considered "HRT" but really, it is a hormone replacement of sorts, so not sure why that one was allowed and the others were not. I didn't really care at the time! They gave me that and my hot flashes were gone for like 6 months. They came back a little wee bit, but nothing like they were. I don't get them so much now, and I'm 36 so I guess it's been about 5 years. I didn't find any natural remedies to work, although some people think they do (maybe it was just me). My sister had to have a full hyster as well, and she thought black cohosh helped.
I also had papillary serous adenocarcinoma...but of the ovary, not uterus. I've had all chemo, no radiation. I wish the best for you. Let me know if you have any more questions. When I started out here in 2005, I found very very few women my age or of the younger group - I think I was like one of the only under 40! That has changed a lot since the site has grown. At least I think that's the reason why - I hope it's not that women are getting cancer younger and younger...
Best Wishes

Re: Doxil for recurrence

Hey! Just wanted to chime in and reiterate what the other gals have said. One question: After the bowel obstruction and subsequent treatment, how were you diagnosed with a third recurrence? Was it the CA125 or did a scan light up?

PD, one more thing- this may come off as complete dorkism (is that a word?) but I have always felt that you will conquer this demon. Don't ask me why since we don't even know each other, but you are going to rock on!
