Pain meds post-op. Worried about not getting strong enough meds.

What did they give you for pain post-op? I only ask because I've been on pain meds since October and they've needed to keep increasing the meds and send me to a pain specialist.

I started on Vicodin and then went to Percocet and then Fentanyl patches and now I'm on the patches and am taking Norco every 4 hours. This is barely keeping my endo pain at bay and now I'm a bit nervous that the post-op pain wiill be difficult to control.

What did your doctor give you for the pain after leaving the castle?

TIA - Summer

Re: Pain meds post-op. Worried about not getting strong enough meds.

My doctor prescribed Darvocet which did fine at first, but then made me so ill I had to stop taking it. It also caused constipation - digestive issues seem to be the biggest cause of my pain. I'm not taking anything for pain now (8 days post op, but stopped taking 4 days ago) and am tender, but doing pretty good.

I have no idea how the pain of endo compares to healing from the hysterectomy, but at least this gets better each day. Share your concerns with your doctor about the pain meds and see what he/she thinks.

Re: Pain meds post-op. Worried about not getting strong enough meds.

I had a TAH on Monday. I received morphine via IV for the first day then went on a low dose of Percocet for the next two. I came home today and have only needed Motrin. The pain after the TAH was nothing compared to the prior pain I experienced from my Endo. There is some pain but somehow, just knowing it will gone in the near future makes it much easier to deal with. Here's hoping your surgery will be as smooth and pain free as mine. ALso - get up and walk as soon as they want you to, it really helps.
