BSO for endo/adhesions- just can't do it!

It's been a while since I checked in. I was told in January that a BSO was my best option for continuing problems with endo and adhesions. This was the opinion of both the OB/Gyn specialist and the Gyn Oncologist at a university hospital that my local doctor had sent me to for some insight as to why I continued to have pain and problems. I was in a lot of pain, so I was "ready and willing" to do whatever to make it stop and the BSO was sounding good. Then my FIL passed away in late January, and I subsequently put everything on hold while we focused on dealing with that. And, that actually may have been a good thing, because it has given me a chance to read more about it and think it through. And now I find, I simply cannot do it! I don't want a BSO. I am still willing to do the LSO - we know it's surrounded by palpable scar tissue, we know it's stuck again, and we know there are adhesions on that side that contain endometrial implaints. So I can be okay with that side going. But I find it's difficult for me to take out the right ovary for no good reason other than it "may" cause more endometriosis down the line and I "may" need another surgery to remove it later. That's just me, I'm not saying it's not a good decision for anyone else. So here it is nearly 5 months later, and I haven't done a thing. It's been okay because I've gotten on top of this level of pain (I was a mess from November to January), and I only end up taking Advil about 1 day mid month and 1-2 Darvocet tablets toward the end of the month. But I am starting to see more swelling/bloating on the left and it is getting more difficult to empty the bladder because it hurts on the left to do so. But I don't want to go back to the university doctors and feel pressured into the BSO. I've thought about going back to my local doctor to see if he would just do the LSO, simply because I know he's very conservative and wouldn't pressure me. But I actually don't know if he would agree to do another surgery on me. I haven't seen or talked to him in 6 months. I am scared of getting a BSO I don't want.

Why not give the U Drs a try with that idea? They may be fine with it if you feel strongly, if not, you can move on. I think it makes sense to do just an LSO, from what you say. I'd start there since they have your info, surely they are used to these discussions. Good luck.

Mich,
I haven't seen you on here in a while....sorry you are having problems again. I am too unfortionatly. I'm scheduled for an open reccurent hernia repair and exploritory surgery on May 12th. Here we go again..ugh! Why don't you try and speak with the dr.'s at the university and tell them how you feel? I know it's so stressful dealing with this....Take care and let me know what happens....

Re: BSO for endo/adhesions- just can't do it!

when we scheduled my hyst for march 30, it was supposed to just be a LSO because of all the pain, adhesions and endo... according to a lap. i had in february, my right ovary was fine... unfortunately it started hurting 2 weeks before my hyst and my dr said it should come out... when he got in there for the hyst, my right "good" ovary was covered in endo and adhesions... i'm so glad its gone... now i don't have to worry about it becoming a bigger issue later... i totally understand that you don't want to do it and that is competely your right... do you feel like you have the pain under control enough to just keep waiting on a decision?

Re: BSO for endo/adhesions- just can't do it!

Marlee,
When I had my hyst. my dr. said it would be a possible tah/bso. When he went in he just took frozen biopsies of my ovaries...it turned out to be endo. I told him in pre-op that If they had any disease or anything at all....TAKE THEM OUT!!!! He left them....6 months later I was in the OR again having a bso. How are you doing now? I really want these butterflies I have to stop....surgery next Wed. it's coming up really soon.
