Can my daughter stay?

My DH has alway stayed during prep, surgeries and hung out after I was awake.
Here is my dilema: My 10 1/2 year old has nowhere to stay the day of the surgery and of course wants to be there. What is the experience with allowing kids in while waiting on the surgery ? And of course will they allow her to hang out with dad being there?

Re: Can my daughter stay?

It depends on the hospital. Mine sent a booklet in the mail and in it explained children could be present, but if under 12 would have to wait in the waiting room with a supervising adult. Maybe call the hospital and explain your situation. Hope it works out for you.

Re: Can my daughter stay?

my DH and son was allowed to stay but then about 3 a.m they were woke up and told they couldn't be in the room because I had a female roommate. So then they had to go sleep in the waiting room which was uncomfortable for them. They went and slept in the car until about 8 when they could come back up. I found out later that they didn't have to leave unless my roommate complained about it and I know she didn't because she was asleep too, plus she said she didn't say anything, and she told me they let her boyfriend stay with her the night before, so I don't know what their problem was, I think they were just in the way of the nurses.

Re: Can my daughter stay?

Please call your hospital and ask them about this. I had a private room and so my DH and 2 year old daughter could stay. Every hospital is different in their policies and practices. The hospital I was in always puts hyst paitients in private rooms away from the L&D ward bt on the same floor because of the nurse to patient ratio being higher. Best of luck to you and please let us know how you are doing.

Re: Can my daughter stay?

Thanks for the feedback. I do know I will be a private room since all of the womens center rooms are this way. This definately eases my min a bit. My daughter is preparing herself to help out. She will be the main help around day 9.
