Why the Granny Panties?

I don't understand the need for Granny panties. I normally wear bikinis and it seems like these would avoid all of the incisions better than the Grannies....... Scheduled for DaVinci Hysterectomy/Oophorectomy on May 12.

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

Hi smiller0206

I had a vaginal hysterectomy and therefore no external incision at all. I found the larger panties to be nice anyway, as the internal cutting created a lot of overall swelling. It just helped me feel less restricted.

Some women spend the first week or two post-op in nightgowns with no undies at all, so that might be a good option for you, too!

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

I had the daVinci procedure and bikini undies work just fine! :-)

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

I had a vertical incision and anything that crossed my stomach below the navel was NOT comfortable. I couldn't imagine a waistband crossing that tender territory

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

I had the daVinci BSO and bikinis would have been fine. I'd hold off on buying much. . But some do swell even with the lap hysts and don't care for that low abd pressure. Bring home the hospital mesh panties in case you change your mind and need a different type. Good luck with your surgery.

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

I had a TVH and did not buy grannie panties. i can see maybe needing them if you have an abdominal incision but as long as the bikini's are stretchy they should be fine!

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

I too had a da Vinci and have found that bikinis work better for me than grannie panties. My bellybutton seems to be a bit more sensitive than I thought it would, and my belly can swell as much as it wants without me worrying about the elastic cutting in anywhere owie. I had a couple pair of grannies around anyway, just in case.

Re: Why the Granny Panties?

I had LAVH, and have a low incision right where my bikini panties hit. I tried wearing a pair of them a couple of weeks post-op and they really irritated my incision site. I don't know where the incisions are made with daVinci, so it may not be a problem for those procedures. Would have rather have gone commando altogether post-op, but there was too much spotting and discharge for that.
